Los Baños combines a more than 2,000-year history of thermal waters with the remains of an ancient Roman thermal bath. If you are looking for hotels in Los Baños, you can first consider whether you are mainly interested in the thermal waters, the archaeological sites, or a connection to a route. The RM423 connects Los Baños with Fortuna, providing a specific road link between the two places.

Thermal Waters and Choosing a Hotel

Thermal waters can be enjoyed at the facilities in the Los Baños de Fortuna district. Participating establishments may change. If access to thermal waters is important to your decision, check in advance which facilities are currently participating. This lets you distinguish the long history of the thermal waters from the question of which specific offering is relevant to your stay.

Hotel La Fuente has four heated swimming pools with spring water at temperatures of 34 to 36°C. The facilities also include various water jets for the neck area, a waterfall, whirlpools, water beds, and a bubble bath. When making your choice, you can therefore take both the pools and the additional water treatments listed into account. As the facilities may change, ask about the current offerings before booking if these details are decisive for you.

Roman Thermal History

The remains of the ancient Roman thermal bath Remains of the Ancient Roman Thermal Bath in Los Baños date from the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. The complex includes a temple dedicated to a divine triad and a pool carved into the rock, where thermal water was collected. The temple and pool reveal two distinct aspects of the complex: its religious dedication and its use of thermal water. This lets you distinguish the archaeological dimension from the present-day water offerings in the district.

Route and Other Archaeological Sites

The geological route passes the Iberian archaeological site of Castillejo de los Baños. This brings together a route and a specific archaeological point of interest. This focus differs from the Roman thermal bath remains in Los Baños: here, the site along a geological route is the main attraction, while there, it is the ancient bathing complex.

Another archaeological point of interest is the Santuario Romano Cueva Negra. It lies about 3 km from Fortuna in the Sierra del Baño and is a pagan sanctuary with three rock overhangs. It contains a significant number of painted Latin texts, known as “tituli picti,” including some of the oldest fragments of Virgil’s Aeneid. Cueva Negra therefore offers a distinct historical focus: the sanctuary and its inscriptions, separate from the thermal bath remains in Los Baños.

The RM423 also provides the road connection to Fortuna. If you are planning to use a specific water facility, check its current participation or amenities directly before booking.
