Playa de Los Urrutias is 1,200 metres long and an average of 20 metres wide. It lies on the Mar Menor and offers calm swimming conditions. The beach, protected salt marsh and small marina each offer a different focus for a stay: the shore is for swimming, the landscape adds a nature-oriented dimension, and the marina is for nautical activities. When choosing a hotel in Los Urrutias, you can first consider which of these aspects you want to shape your stay.

Beach and facilities

The length makes the beach a long stretch of shore, while the average width describes another dimension. The figure of 20 metres is an average, not a claim that every section is equally wide. Playa de Los Urrutias has children's play areas, foot-washing stations, walkways and toilets; there is a kiosk on the promenade. The 2026 accessibility information distinguishes between Playa de Los Urrutias as a whole, which is partially equipped, and El Caletón, which is classified as equipped. If a particular beach facility is important for your visit, check its current status beforehand; individual facilities may change.

The salt marsh as a protected landscape

The Saladar de Los Urrutias is part of the protected landscape area Espacios Abiertos e Islas del Mar Menor. This adds a landscape focus alongside the beach and water sports. If you are not choosing your stay solely based on swimming conditions, you can also take this protected status into account when deciding where to go. This gives you two distinct themes: time by the water at Playa de Los Urrutias and the protected status of a landscape area.

Marina, sailing and windsurfing

Los Urrutias has a small marina for activities such as sailing and windsurfing. The harbour of Club de Regatas Mar Menor is a marina built on an island, about 100 metres from the beach and accessible via a bridge. The term “island marina” describes its design; the bridge is the actual access to the facility. Together with the approximate distance from the beach, these details offer useful spatial reference points if you want to compare the nautical focus with the beach. The club organises regattas and runs a sailing school; check current programmes separately. If you are planning boating activities, also check the current operating details beforehand.

Tower, chapel and local festivals

The Torre del Negro stands in the Los Urrutias area and was built on the orders of King Philip II. The tower has two floors and a total height of 14 metres. A former chapel in Los Urrutias was dedicated to Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The Virgen del Carmen festival included a mass and procession in July 2025; a celebration also took place in 2024. If you want to travel for the occasion, check the current event dates.

A note about the Aula de la Naturaleza

On 2 February 2026, the Aula de la Naturaleza de Los Urrutias was closed and in a neglected state. If you specifically want to visit the Aula, check beforehand whether its status has changed.
