If you are looking for a hotel in Torre-Pacheco, you can plan your trip around your interests: options range from the Cabezo Gordo nature reserve to town and mill routes, agriculture and festival culture. The destinations differ not only in subject matter; access and specific dates also matter for caves, guided routes and events.

Cabezo Gordo: Nature Reserve and Caves

Cabezo Gordo is designated as an Área de Protección de la Fauna Silvestre (APFS), or a protected area for wild animals. Six habitat types of Community interest have been mapped in the area. They cover 90 percent of the protected area; three of the six types are priority habitats. This provides a way to understand the area’s protected status in terms of specific habitats.

Cueva del Agua in Cabezo Gordo is a former mine with a freshwater lake. The caves of Cabezo Gordo can only be visited as part of tours organized by Torre-Pacheco Town Council. Check the Town Council’s current visiting schedule before your trip.

Sima de las Palomas is also an archaeological attraction. Visits are possible during open days held twice a year, in winter and summer, as the site is still under study. The research focuses in particular on Neanderthal remains excavated during earlier excavation campaigns. Restricted access and archaeological significance give Sima de las Palomas two distinct aspects: it is both a visitor attraction and a site still under investigation.

Old Town, Routes and Mills

The Ruta Urbana Torre Pacheco offers insights into the old town, its most distinctive buildings, traditions, notable figures and anecdotes. It is listed as an easy circular walking route. The route entry also lists it as an accessible route, a route for children and an urban route. This means the description combines urban themes with specific information about the route.

The guided route La Fábrica del Viento has a different focus: it takes visitors inside the Molino de El Pasico to learn how its three floors or chambers work. The windmill is part of the Paraje de El Pasico and is designated as a B.I.C. Check whether the guided route is available before your trip. While the Ruta Urbana focuses on buildings, traditions and notable figures, La Fábrica del Viento focuses on how a mill works.

Agriculture and Regional Products

The Ruta Verde De la Semilla al Plato follows the production process for fruit and vegetables grown in the fields of Torre-Pacheco. It starts at the CIFEA, continues to the El Jimenado seedling nursery and passes irrigation houses and greenhouses. The route also includes seasonal growing areas. Experts explain modern and traditional agricultural technologies. The route thus provides a connected overview, from the growing areas to the stages of the production process.

This agricultural route is therefore quite different from visits to Cabezo Gordo and the town and mill routes: its focus is on growing fruit and vegetables and the processes behind it. Since participation arrangements may change, check the current arrangements for the Ruta Verde in advance.

Festivals and Historic Traces

The Fiesta de los Molinos takes place in the Paraje de El Pasico on the last weekend in April. Check the specific dates for the year of your trip. Another cultural highlight is the Festival de Cante Flamenco de Lo Ferro, which is recognized as a festival of regional tourist interest. Most of the surviving architectural remains of Torre-Pacheco’s former church are located in the church square. The mill festival, flamenco and architectural traces offer different highlights and add more reasons to visit alongside nature, town and agricultural attractions.
