Baardskeerdersbos: Bread Baking, Art and Earthen Stone Houses
Accommodation in Baardskeerdersbos
Baardskeerdersbos offers different points of interest for planning your trip: a hands-on bread-baking experience, the Baardskeerdersbos Art Route and original earthen stone houses. The Sourdough Bread Making Experience focuses on hands-on work; the art route offers activities and insights into local artists’ studios. The workshop and the art route therefore offer different experiences: one is about taking part in bread baking, the other about art and the people behind it.
The Sourdough Bread Making Experience
The Sourdough Bread Making Experience takes place on the provider’s veranda in Baardskeerdersbos. Participants work in a fully functional artisan bakery where space is limited. There is also a brick oven measuring 3 × 2 m on the veranda. The workshop covers slow fermentation, whole-grain ingredients and basic bread-making principles. The topics range from the fermentation process and ingredients to the fundamentals of baking. If you plan to include the oven as a detail of the event, you can confirm this detail with the provider in advance.
The workshop is equally suited to beginners and experienced bakers. It can only be booked for groups. Individuals may join another group if a place is available. For planning your trip, the intended audience and booking rules should therefore be considered separately: people with different levels of experience are welcome, but participation as an individual depends on a place being available in a group. Check current availability and booking conditions with the provider in advance.
Art and studios along the Art Route
Visitors can take part in the art activities offered by the Baardskeerdersbos Art Route. Artists along the route portray the unspoilt beauty of their rural surroundings through a variety of styles, techniques and materials. The route also offers insights into the lives and studios of local artists from the B’bos community. It thus brings together two perspectives: the rural surroundings depicted in the artworks and the community’s artistic environment. Studio visits are by prior arrangement; if you are interested in visiting studios, arrange this in advance.
Local character and regional context
Original earthen stone houses still stand in Baardskeerdersbos. They add an architectural point of reference to the insights into local art. Alongside artistic work and activities, these original houses are among the features that define the place.
