If you’re looking for hotels in Daman, the distinctive character of its different areas can help you plan your trip: black-sand beaches, gardens by the water and Portuguese-influenced architecture each offer something different. The places and their features vary considerably—from a rocky, muddy shoreline to historic forts and recurring religious events. This can help you choose which aspects of Daman matter most for your stay.

Beaches, Promenade and Activities

Devka Beach in Nani Daman has black sand and a rocky, muddy shoreline. At Jampore Beach, the black sand is soft, and casuarina groves provide beachgoers with extensive shade. The two stretches of coast offer distinct landscape experiences. Visitors can also collect shells and enjoy water sports at Jampore Beach. The specific activities available may vary.

The Devka Promenade and Sea Front, also known as Namo Path, is a 5.45-kilometre-long tourist walkway. Its amenities include more than 200 benches, smart lighting, gardens and food stalls. Specific details and the stalls’ offerings may change. Activities and rides such as bungee jumping and water balloon rafting are listed at Devka Amusement Park. If any of these are important to your plans, check what is currently available in advance.

Views at Nani Daman Jetty

From Jetty Garden at Nani Daman Jetty, you can see the estuary where the Daman Ganga flows into the Arabian Sea, two forts built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, two lighthouses and three bridges. The garden also has a playground. The Nani Daman Jetty area is also home to a dock, several fast-food stalls and Saint Jerome Fort. The offerings at individual food stalls may change.

Forts and Architectural Details

Construction of Moti Daman Fort began in 1559 and ended in 1581, when Daman was a Portuguese enclave. The fort covers around 30,000 square metres. Its features include cannons with intricate carvings. At the Fort of St. Jerome, Portuguese-carved crosses, other carvings and inscriptions can be seen on the façade. The fort also contains a cemetery and a church.

Monastery and Recurring Commemorations

Every year on February 2, the Catholic community gathers at the Dominican Monastery to listen to the clergy recount the monastery’s history. On the third Sunday in December, Catholics celebrate a Mass there in memory of Saint Dominic and those who died in the earthquake. Visitors can see the monastery’s arches and walls, which withstood the earthquake.

The Somnath Mahadev Temple is also the setting for a recurring event: the Masi Fair is held there every year. The monastery gatherings and the Mass take place on specific dates, while the Masi Fair is an annual event. Together, these traditions offer a glimpse of the religious events held at specific places in Daman.

Gardens and More to Discover

At Mirasol Lake Garden, also known as Kadaiya Lake Garden, you can enjoy pedal-boat rides and rides on a toy train. If you plan to take one of these rides, check in advance what is currently available. The garden offers specific recreational activities, while Jetty Garden stands out for its views of the estuary, forts, lighthouses and bridges.

This gives you a range of options for planning your trip, from coastal scenery and water sports at Jampore Beach and the longer tourist walkway along Devka Promenade to the views at Nani Daman Jetty and the historic and religious sites.
