Hamirpur lies about 786 meters above sea level and has been considered an educational center in Himachal Pradesh for several years. The town is also located on the road between Dharamshala and Shimla and is served by state transport corporation HRTC buses to major destinations. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing Hamirpur itself from the historical sites in the surrounding area.

Historical Sites near Sujanpur

Sujanpur is located near Hamirpur. The historic town was founded in 1748 by Raja Abhay Chand and lies on the left bank of the Beas. Its Chaugan is considered the largest open ground in Himachal Pradesh. The historic Sujanpur Fort of the Katoch dynasty is four kilometers from Sujanpur. The town is also home to the Bara-Dari, Raja Sansar Chand’s Court Room.

Several temples give the surrounding area its own historical character. The Murli-Manohar Temple in Sujanpur was built in 1790, and the Narbadeshwar Temple there in 1823. There are five old temples in total in Tira and Sujanpur; this figure refers to both places. Nearby, the Gauri-Shankar Temple was built in 1793 during the time of Raja Sansar Chand in memory of his mother. The different construction dates and Sujanpur’s founding in 1748 provide a chronological reference, without implying that the sites mentioned are all in one place.

More Places in the Hamirpur Destination

Gasota and Deothsidh are also part of the wider Hamirpur destination. Gasota is home to a 400-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva; a natural stream flows beside the temples. A cattle fair is held there every year on the first Monday of the month of Jyeshtha, usually in mid-May. Visitors interested in religious traditions and local events will find a different focus here than at the historical buildings in Sujanpur.

The Baba Balak Nath Temple in Deothsidh is in the village of Chakmoh in Hamirpur district, on a hilltop inside a natural cave. The month-long Chaitr Mela is held there every year from March 14 to April 13. This fixed annual period may be relevant when planning the timing of your trip. Nadaun is also home to the Dhaynu Bhagat Samadhi and a historic Gurudwara. These places add to the wider destination, but should be distinguished from Hamirpur itself.

Activities and Choosing a Location

The area around Sujanpur is considered suitable for paragliding, fishing, rafting, and trekking. Near Nadaun, the Beas offers good opportunities for mahseer fishing. The range of activities across the wider destination thus includes everything from outings around Sujanpur to river fishing. Then check the specific location of each option to make sure it suits your travel plans.

If your stay focuses on Hamirpur itself, you can take the town’s location and HRTC bus services into account as you find your way around. If Sujanpur, Gasota, or Deothsidh are your main destinations, plan for them as separate places within the wider Hamirpur destination. This keeps your hotel search focused on the place that matters most for your trip.
