There are several themes to choose from when planning a trip to Herzliya: the archaeological traces of Apollonia National Park, the seasonal changes in Herzliya Park, and water activities at Herzliya Marina.

Apollonia: Fortress, Traces and Views

Apollonia National Park is on the outskirts of Herzliya, with its Crusader fortress providing a historical focal point. Ballista stones used by attackers to shoot at the fortress can be seen in the park. Another trace is the bridge to Apollonia Fort: it was destroyed along with the fort, but its two supporting pillars are still visible at the bottom of the moat. Different remains thus stand side by side: projectiles from the attacks and the pillars of the destroyed bridge.

From the lookout point on the remains of the tower, the Mediterranean coast is visible to the west, the chimneys of the Hadera power station to the north, and the chimneys of the Ashdod power station to the south. Visibility of these distant features may depend on conditions. The remains of the Crusader harbor are also visible from a lookout point in Apollonia National Park.

There is a villa in Herzliya Pituach. Check the current information about the site before your visit.

Seasonal Scenery and Views of the Marina

In Herzliya Park, the winter pond is a clear example of seasonal change. In winter, it fills with vegetation and animals, including waterbirds and aquatic insects; in summer, it dries up. The difference between the conditions described is clear: the plant and animal life belongs to winter, while the pond is dry in summer. Unlike Apollonia’s archaeological traces, this aspect of the landscape is best understood through the change between winter and summer.

Tel Michal offers another distinctive feature: the ancient mound overlooks Herzliya Marina. The site can thus be presented both in terms of its ancient history and its view of the marina.

Sailing and Water Activities at Herzliya Marina

Day sails and multi-day trips on private yachts are offered at Herzliya Marina, and can be taken with family and friends. Other water activities include kayaking and jet skiing; watercraft can be rented. Local and international sailing events are also held at the marina. The options appeal to different interests, ranging from trips on private yachts to water sports and sailing events. Check current dates and activity availability when making specific plans.

Herzliya thus offers a range of options for choosing a focus for your trip: Apollonia centers on the fortress, its remains and its viewpoints; Herzliya Park on the seasonal pond; and the marina on sailing and other water activities.
