For your trip planning, you can explore Putrajaya through different themes: waterscapes and gardens, architecture and history, or outdoor leisure activities. The city's attractions offer concrete points of interest, from a man-made wetland to themed plant collections and monuments.

Nature, Water and Gardens

The artificial Tasik Putrajaya covers 650 hectares and offers opportunities for recreation. At the same time, the lake is designed to moderate the city's climate. It therefore combines a recreational function with a stated role in the urban landscape.

Taman Wetland Putrajaya covers 3.35 km² and serves as the city's green lung. This significant man-made freshwater wetland comprises 24 freshwater cells and lakes. Visitor highlights include Flamingo Pond and an observation tower. The park provides a habitat for more than 59 migratory bird species, 200 bird species and 24 freshwater fish species, as well as other aquatic flora and fauna. Species numbers may change over time.

Putrajaya Botanical Garden covers 92 hectares and is one of Malaysia's largest botanical gardens. More than 750 plant species are distributed across 13 themed plant collections from different continents. The ornamental garden area also includes 13 themed gardens, including Taman Anggur, Taman Pakis, Taman Matahari and Bukit Palma. Taman Islam Astaka Morocco pays tribute to Moroccan heritage and architecture there.

Parks and Trails

The 62.4-hectare Taman Putra Perdana is located at the highest point of Precinct 1. It forms a buffer between the natural zone to the north and office and commercial areas to the south and east. A time capsule in the centre of the park tells the story of Putrajaya's origins. The park also includes an herb garden, a jogging track, a flower garden and a pavilion.

Taman Rimba Alam, in eastern Putrajaya, combines a tropical forest ecosystem and flowing streams with nature trails, an observation platform and picnic areas. Leisure activities listed there include treasure hunts, orienteering, jogging, mountain biking, guided visits and birdwatching. Taman Wawasan is suitable for jogging, picnics and cycling; at Taman Cabaran, the outdoor amphitheatre is suitable for children and leisure visitors to practise and have fun.

The six-kilometre City Trail Putrajaya connects the waterfront areas of Precinct 1 and is suitable for jogging, picnics and family leisure activities. The Perbadanan Putrajaya walking trail offers a different route: it runs along Dataran Putra and Dataran Putrajaya and is designed for at least 1,000 steps.

Architecture and History

Masjid Putra is named after Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaysia's first prime minister. The 68-metre-high Monumen Alaf Baru stands in Precinct 2. Its four interconnected sections represent Malaysia's pre-independence period up to 1957, the post-independence period from 1957 to 1970, Malaysia from 1971 to 2020, and the future from 2020 onward. The two structures thus highlight the history behind a name and a timeline of Malaysia.

The design of other places also offers different cultural points of reference. The design of Istana Kehakiman combines influences from classical Islamic architecture, as seen at the Taj Mahal, Moorish elements such as those at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, and Western classical influences such as Palladianism. Taman Persahabatan China-Malaysia features traditional Chinese garden design in the Lingnan style.

In Taman Putra Perdana, Mercu Tanda Putrajaya, the first monument, commemorates Putrajaya's founding in 1995. Putrajaya Story offers another way to learn about the city's origins: the exhibition covers around 6,000 square feet and features more than 20 exhibits under the theme “It’s Time to Discover Putrajaya Story”.

Agriculture and Food

Taman Warisan Pertanian lies south of Precinct 16. The park covers more than 14.4 hectares and is home to more than 170 tree species. Its displays trace the development of Malaysia's commercial agriculture over the centuries, featuring rubber, oil palm, coffee, tea, cocoa, fruits, herbs and spices. The site includes an orchard, an herb and spice trail, rubber plots and an observation platform with views of Putrajaya.

Here, visitors can try agricultural activities under the guidance of park staff, such as tapping and processing rubber. Penanggah Taman Warisan Pertanian in Precinct 16 adds a food offering to this theme: 21 food stalls serve more than 150 dishes. The menu and number of stalls may change.

Getting Around and Planning Your Trip

Putrajaya Sentral is a bus, rail and taxi terminal. Check which connections are suitable for your travel dates. The Putrajaya Visitor Information Centre (I-Centre) is located in front of the government complex in Parcel B, Precinct 1; confirm its availability before visiting.

For a trip on the lake, visitors can choose between an air-conditioned excursion boat with a capacity of 70 passengers and gondolas with four or six seats at Cruise Tasik Putrajaya. If you plan this trip, check the schedule in advance. This lets you connect your choice of nature, culture and activities with the specific places that interest you during your stay.
