Ben Tre can be explored through a range of interests: the Bến Tre Night Market combines evening shopping, sightseeing and dining; the Bến Tre Museum offers a look at historical and cultural topics; and Phú An Khang adds a perspective on fruit growing and agriculture. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between these highlights and plan your visit around what you would like to see or experience.

A market visit by the river

The Bến Tre Night Market stretches along the Bến Tre River. It is suited to evening sightseeing and also offers opportunities for shopping and dining. Its 183 stalls include 11 food stalls and 44 fruit stalls. Another 128 retail stalls sell ready-made clothing, souvenirs and handicrafts. The largest share of stalls is therefore devoted to retail, with food and fruit making up separate sections. Stall numbers may change. If you are planning to visit the market on a particular evening, check current visiting options in advance.

History and exhibitions at the Bến Tre Museum

The Bến Tre Museum was founded in 1981. Its address is 146 Hùng Vương Street in the An Hội ward of Bến Tre City; verify it locally before travelling. The main façade faces the Bến Tre River. The grounds feature mature shade trees and well-maintained ornamental plants.

The outdoor exhibition includes large-scale war relics, including aircraft wreckage, guns and bomb casings. The museum also displays artifacts from the Giồng Nổi archaeological site. Its subjects therefore range from material traces of war to archaeology. Visitors can tour the complex, learn there and explore the sites within it.

The museum complex includes the national historical memorial site “Nơi ở và hoạt động của Đại tá Phạm Ngọc Thảo” (“Residence and activities of Colonel Phạm Ngọc Thảo”), which was recognized as a national historical monument in 2015. The complex also includes the Dinh Tham biện (Pháp) building, also known as Dinh Tỉnh trưởng (Mỹ). It was built in 1876 in the French architectural style. The dates refer to different facts: 1876 is the year the building was constructed, while 2015 is the year the memorial site was recognized.

At the museum, artists and tài tử musicians perform folk shows from Bến Tre. If a performance is important to your plans, check in advance whether one is scheduled for the time of your visit. You should also check current visiting options before going to the museum.

Orchard and agriculture at Phú An Khang

At Phú An Khang, visitors can tour an orchard in the riverine landscape of southwestern Vietnam. The site combines tourism and agriculture; its facilities include high-tech cultivation of melons, cherry tomatoes and clean vegetables. The tourist offering of an orchard visit is thus complemented by a clear agricultural focus, with specific crops named. The agricultural offering may change. If you are planning to visit Phú An Khang specifically for its cultivation, check in advance which options are currently available.
