Pác Bó is a national memorial site, an important point on the Hồ Chí Minh Road, and a landscape of mountains and water. Other memorial sites offer their own historical perspectives; in Ngọc Đào, Tày brocade weaving adds another dimension.

Pác Bó: Memorial Site and Landscape

The Pác Bó Memorial Site is located in Trường Hà Commune in Hà Quảng District; the government recognized it as a Special National Memorial Site. Pác Bó is Kilometer Zero, the starting point of the Hồ Chí Minh Road, and also the first route on the experiential journey through the Non nước Cao Bằng Geopark. The site is considered scenic and is characterized by a harmonious mountain-and-water landscape and fresh air. This brings together the site's historical importance, its clear role as a route starting point, and the landscape as a distinct perspective.

Hồ Chí Minh chose Cốc Bó Cave as a place to live and work. He named the stream in front of the cave Lê Nin and the mountain beside the stream Các Mác. The Hồ Chí Minh Temple in Pác Bó is also a memorial site and serves to convey revolutionary history and patriotic values. The cave, the names of the landscape features, and the temple each offer a different focus: historical use, remembrance through place names, and the sharing of history.

Other Historical Memorial Sites

The Kim Đồng Historical Memorial Site is also located in Trường Hà Commune in Hà Quảng District. It commemorates Kim Đồng and his mother, Lân Thị Hò. Another historical landmark is Pò Đoi–Thoong Mạ, where the National Children's Rescue Team was founded on May 15, 1941. Their focuses are distinct: Kim Đồng and his mother are at the center of the memorial site, while Pò Đoi–Thoong Mạ is associated with a precisely dated founding event. If you are factoring historical sites into your travel plans, you can consider which of these stories interests you most.

Tày Brocade in Ngọc Đào

Traditional crafts are also part of Hà Quảng's cultural heritage. Luống Nọi in Ngọc Đào Commune is a cultural heritage site on the “Journey to the Roots” route of the Non nước Cao Bằng Geopark, which is recognized by UNESCO. Traditional Tày brocade weaving in Ngọc Đào Commune was recognized as National Intangible Cultural Heritage by Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2022. In Luống Nọi, Tày brocade products are made from indigo-dyed fabric, featuring diverse decorative patterns and fine weaving techniques.

Here, the emphasis is on materials and weaving techniques, while the memorial sites are shaped by historical figures, places of remembrance, and events. This offers a useful distinction for planning your trip: Pác Bó and the other memorial sites represent different historical perspectives; Luống Nọi and Ngọc Đào add Tày brocade and weaving to this picture. Search for hotels based on which of these themes will shape your stay.
