When looking for a hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: Would you mainly like to explore museums and history, discover markets and food, or spend time outdoors? The city offers different points of interest for each of these. You can use them to guide your hotel choice according to what you want to shape your stay.

Museums and historical perspectives

The War Remnants Museum focuses on modern war history and war crimes. It has nine permanent exhibition themes and preserves more than 20,000 documents, artifacts, images and documentaries. Alongside its permanent exhibitions, the museum presents temporary and mobile exhibitions; its offerings also include activities with witnesses to the war. This brings both long-term themes and changing exhibition formats into focus.

The Ho Chi Minh City History Museum offers a different perspective on the past. It was founded in 1929 as the Museum of Blanchard de la Brosse and was the first museum in South Vietnam. Today, it displays more than 40,000 objects. Its permanent exhibition covers the history of Vietnam from prehistoric times to the Nguyễn dynasty. The building is also part of its historical profile: in 2012, it was recognized as a national monument of artistic architecture.

Monuments and urban history

The Independence Palace is a special national monument of Vietnam. Visitors can use an electric vehicle to tour the grounds; the ride takes about ten minutes. As this is a current visitor service, check the palace's visitor information before your visit.

Another specific episode in the city's history relates to the Tết Mậu Thân 1968 Spring Offensive. The Hệ thống Di tích Biệt động Sài Gòn includes a secret hideout where almost two tons of weapons were stored at the time for an attack on the Independence Palace. This detail links a specific place with the historical event without reducing the history of the entire system to this hideout.

Streets, markets and local cuisine

Nguyễn Huệ Street is a pedestrian street stretching from City Hall to Bạch Đằng Wharf. Ben Thanh Market offers a culinary point of interest and is known for street food such as Bánh xèo, Bánh cuốn and Hủ tiếu Nam Vang. Those interested in dumplings can find another point of interest on Hà Tôn Quyền Street, which is known for jiaozi. The shrimp jiaozi at 193 Thuận Hảo are made using a Chinese family recipe.

The long-established Chợ Thiếc sells fresh food, jewelry and handicrafts, and retains a historically shaped atmosphere. Phụng Sơn Pagoda appeals to a different cultural interest: the old temple has around 40 religious statues, including historical wooden statues and a stone Buddha. Markets, temples and museums each offer a distinct focus, giving you different ideas for planning your stay.

Relaxation, recreation and surroundings

The well-maintained paths of Tao Dan Park are suited to relaxing, exercising and taking walks in the morning or evening. For a different kind of leisure, Dam Sen Water Park offers more than 30 activities, including the Solar Water Massage Pool with 70 massage jets. The options described range from peaceful walks to a specific water-based attraction.

The surrounding area also adds to the themes of a stay. In Củ Chi District, on the northwestern edge of the Greater Ho Chi Minh City area, there is a tunnel system more than 250 kilometers long. Viet Cong forces used it during the Vietnam War to evade American and South Vietnamese troops. West of Ho Chi Minh City is also a fertile region with canals and waterways that can be explored by boat. These two regional points of interest offer different perspectives: the history of war in Củ Chi District and a landscape shaped by waterways.
