Lao Bảo Prison is located at the end of Lê Thế Tiết Street in the town of Lao Bảo, in Hướng Hóa District. It was built in 1908 on a site of about 10 hectares and recognized as a national historical and cultural monument on January 25, 1991. The two dates mark different stages in its history: 1908 refers to its construction, and 1991 to its recognition as a monument.

Aircraft, helicopters, artillery guns and tanks are displayed in the museum area of Tà Cơn Airport. The collection ranges from aircraft to guns and tanks. Alongside the historic site in Lao Bảo, the destination therefore offers an exhibition featuring different types of military equipment.

The cultural side also includes the Mừng lúa mới festival of the Vân Kiều. It was revived in Chênh Vênh Hamlet, in the commune of Hướng Phùng, Hướng Hóa District. This specific location adds a Vân Kiều tradition to the historic sites.

Nature reserve, mountain pass and waterfalls

Bắc Hướng Hóa Nature Reserve protects rare animals and plants, including the Edwards's pheasant, Hà Tĩnh langur, saola, large-antlered muntjac and striped rabbit.
