Accommodation in Granite Rock
Granite Rock Speedway is part of the history of the Bairnsdale Speedway Association. For a visit to Bairnsdale Speedway, practical information about race nights, transponder hire, food and toilet facilities is relevant.
Visiting Bairnsdale Speedway
Transponders can be hired at the pits on race nights at Bairnsdale Speedway. The timing and location are specific to your enquiry: if hiring one is important for your visit, ask the operator before travelling whether one is available on your chosen date. This way, your enquiry relates directly to your planned race night.
The canteen is located in the pits next to the pit and serves pasties, sausage rolls and drinks. This makes its location and selection clear for a break: pasties and sausage rolls are savoury foods, with drinks rounding out the offering. If you want to include the canteen in your visit schedule, check with the operator before travelling whether it will be open during your visit.
For finding your way around, it is helpful to distinguish between the two areas: transponders are available for hire at the pit, while the canteen is in the pits next to the pit. If you have a question, you can specify whether it concerns hire or refreshments.
Bairnsdale Speedway has toilets, but no showers. This is important when planning your stay if you will need a shower during a longer visit or are combining your speedway visit with an overnight stay. Make separate arrangements for shower facilities, and confirm the current arrangements before travelling.
History of Granite Rock Speedway
The Bairnsdale Speedway Association is run by volunteers. Around 40 years ago, it began racing at Granite Rock Speedway on the northern outskirts of Bairnsdale. Meetings were initially held in daylight; night meetings were added later. Granite Rock Speedway remains the Association's home track. This history brings together an approximate starting point, a later change in the racing events and a continuing home track. The volunteer-run operation adds insight into how the Association is organised.
What to consider when planning your stay
For a stay planned around a race night, the availability of transponder hire and the canteen are practical questions to consider in advance. Those more interested in the history can focus on the approximate start of racing, the shift from daytime to night meetings and the Association's continuing home track. For timing, note that transponder hire is tied to race nights; the track remains the Association's home.
