Mitiamo offers two specific things to consider when planning a stay: golf in town and nature at Terrick Terrick National Park, four kilometres to the north. Other highlights include the silos, Mitiamo’s most distinctive landmark, and local spots such as the General Store and the Tavern. If you choose a destination based on activities, you can weigh the differences clearly: the golf course is in Mitiamo, while the national park offers its own viewpoints and grassland experiences.

Golf at Mitiamo Golf Course

Mitiamo Golf Course is an 18-hole course with sand greens on mostly flat terrain. The number of holes, the surface and the terrain give the course a distinct profile and help you identify golf as a clear focus for your stay. Visitors are welcome; booking is not required. The course is open from mid-April to the end of September. As operations are seasonal, check conditions before you travel. Ladies’ competitions are held on Wednesdays, and competitions are held on Sundays; the licensed clubhouse is also open on Sundays. If you plan to visit on either of these days, check the latest competition details and clubhouse information. When choosing dates, the season and the day of the week are two separate considerations: the opening period narrows down the possible travel dates, while competitions apply to specific days within that period. Check both separately if you are planning your golf around them.

Nature at Terrick Terrick National Park

Terrick Terrick National Park is four kilometres north of Mitiamo. A short, steep track leads to the summit of Mt Terrick Terrick, where you can look out over the park and surrounding farmland. Both the length and the gradient matter on this track: it is short but steep. Bear the gradient in mind if you are considering the summit walk. Another highlight is the grassland around the ruins of the historic Davies homestead. Visitors can explore the grassland there. The homestead and its associated grassland are accessible via Mitiamo-Kow Swamp Road. Conditions on rural roads can vary, so take this into account when travelling there. The summit walk and the homestead area mainly differ in what they offer: views over the park and farmland, or an opportunity to explore the grassland.

Silos, local history and orientation

The silos are Mitiamo’s most distinctive landmark and historically served as a major grain-dispatch centre. This makes them both a useful point of reference and a tangible part of the town’s history. Mitiamo General Store is located at the entrance to the national park. If you plan to visit, check its opening hours, as these may change. The silos help you recognise Mitiamo, while the General Store’s location at the park entrance makes it relevant to northern excursion destinations.
