Discover Strathbogie
Accommodation in Strathbogie
Strathbogie offers several ways to shape a stay: a track between two bridges, memorial sites, a church with a long community history, golf and a waterside area. These attractions are not all in the same place: the Bridge to Bridge Walking Track runs behind the town centre, the golf course is on the edge of town and Polly McQuinns is southeast of town. When planning your time, these locations can help you treat the walk, history and other activities as distinct points of interest.
Tracks and creek scenery
The Bridge to Bridge Walking Track runs behind the town centre of Strathbogie, between the northern and southern bridges. It follows Seven Creeks and Spring Creek and passes their confluence. The route description therefore includes both its location between the bridges and the meeting point of the two creeks. Check local conditions before planning to walk the track.
Polly McQuinns is 4 km southeast of Strathbogie, on Seven Creeks. The site includes a reservoir, a weir and a bridge, as well as a pleasant waterside area for picnics and walks. This gives you two distinct ways to experience Seven Creeks: the track focuses on the route along the two creeks and their confluence, while Polly McQuinns features the reservoir and waterside area. Local water conditions and facilities can change; take this into account when planning your visit.
Memorial sites and community history
Strathbogie Memorial Hall was built in 1955 by local volunteers as a memorial. It commemorates those who volunteered to defend Australia in the Second World War and did not return. The hall also houses a permanent exhibition of restored old photographs, with historically important images of earlier life on the Tableland. Two distinct historical themes come together at this site: remembrance of those who did not return from the war and images of earlier life on the Tableland. Exhibition opening arrangements can change; check them before visiting.
The hall and its shaded grounds have provided a setting for seasonal festivals, exhibitions and markets. If an event is important to your stay, check in advance whether and when it is taking place and what the opening arrangements are. Individual events and opening arrangements can change.
St Andrew’s Uniting Church and its predecessors, the Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church, have served the spiritual needs of the Strathbogie community since 1878. Two large stained-glass windows are located beside the pulpit. A leadlight window, added later in the entrance hall, commemorates former members of the district. The information links the church’s long community tradition with a specific memorial detail whose location in the church is precisely identified.
The Strathbogie Heritage Trail map identifies the Presbyterian Church, now the Uniting Church, as a historic site to explore. Strathbogie Hotel is also listed as a historic site; its former name is given as RH Graham’s Store.
Golf on the edge of town
If golf is part of your trip, the Strathbogie Golf Club on the edge of town has an 18-hole golf course with grass fairways. Its location differs from the track behind the town centre and the waterside area to the southeast. Playing arrangements can change; check in advance if you plan to play a round.
