If you are looking for a hotel in Sigleß, the area’s attractions can shape your choice of destination: landscape art, historic buildings, and routes offer different ways to enjoy your stay. Particularly striking are the artworks on hilltops, each offering its own view of the surrounding area.

Landscape Art and Views

The Himmelsleiter is a landscape art project on a hilltop in Sigleß; from there, the view stretches as far as Lake Neusiedl. Heinz Bruckschwaiger created it in 1991/92 as his first landscape artwork. The Hexenhügel cycle route passes close to the Himmelsleiter—a helpful landmark if you would like to combine art and cycling.

East of Sigleß, the Zeitstuhl stands on a hilltop and is another landscape project with panoramic views of Lake Neusiedl. It features a spiral path. At the top of the 2.5-metre-high hill is a sundial facing south. At the Zeitstuhl, the path’s shape and design come together; at the Himmelsleiter, the emphasis is on the view from the hilltop.

The 8.5-metre-high octahedron is an artwork that visitors can enter and also serves as an observation tower. Fourteen windows offer views as far as Lake Neusiedl on clear days. This sets it apart from the two landscape projects on hilltops: here, looking through the windows is part of the artwork’s very design.

Routes, Nature, and Getting Your Bearings

The well-maintained farm roads around Sigleß are ideal for long walks and bike rides. The approximately 87-kilometre Eulenweg trail passes through Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park and Sigleß and is signposted in both directions. The B32 Rosalia cycle route is 58.87 kilometres long and also passes through Sigleß. These distances give you different scales to consider when planning a trip: the Eulenweg is the longer route, while the B32 is specifically designated as a cycle route. As route conditions can change, check the latest trail information before setting out.

Sigleß is part of the protected Rosalia-Kogelberg Nature Park. The Siebenweidenkreis landscape project borders biotope areas that have remained undisturbed for years and includes a pond fed by groundwater. The Old Lime Tree in Sigleß is designated a natural monument. These natural features offer a different perspective on the landscape from the viewpoints.

Historic Buildings and Local History

The Olram Cross is a wayside shrine in the form of a tabernacle pillar dating from 1630. It is easy to reach from the Hexenhügel cycle route. Sigleß is also home to the Marienkapelle, a small gabled chapel built in the second half of the 19th century. The two buildings have different defining features: the Olram Cross is distinguished by its specific architectural form and date, while the chapel is notable for its simple design and period of construction.

The parish church of Sigleß was consecrated on All Saints’ Day in 1733 and is therefore known as the All Saints’ Church. The Sakramentenweg in Sigleß also has a recorded historical date: it was built in 2006/2007. Since 2007, numerous graves have been uncovered during annual excavation campaigns in the Kloaschitzwald, most of them dating from the late Avar-Carolingian period. These finds complement the visible buildings with an archaeological perspective on local history.

More Ways to Enjoy Your Stay

Swimming lessons for non-swimmers are held every year at the Sigleß outdoor swimming pool. Checking the course dates in advance can help with planning your visit. The local food and drink options also have different specialities: the Winegrowing Lassl Genussheuriger serves a seasonally changing selection of cold dishes, various breads, and homemade spreads. Heuriger Glauber’s Buschenschank offers wine and a hearty snack platter. The dishes at Winegrowing Lassl change with the seasons, and the two venues also differ in the selection described. Which one suits you depends on what you are looking for when stopping for a meal.

You can explore Sigleß according to your interests: the octahedron, Himmelsleiter, and Zeitstuhl put views and art centre stage, while cycling and walking routes, as well as historic buildings, offer other points of interest. When planning your stay, you can match these interests with the available routes and local offerings.
