Raiding: Liszt Birthplace, Concert Centre and Cycle Routes
Accommodation in Raiding
Raiding is shaped by Franz Liszt, the Liszt Centre and several cycle routes that pass through the village. When planning a stay, you can focus on different things: the birthplace and museum, concerts, cycling or wine tasting. These themes are linked to specific places and routes in Raiding.
Franz Liszt: Birthplace and Museum
Franz Liszt was born on 22 October 1811 in the Liszt Birthplace in Raiding. The house gives the village a tangible historical connection to his life. The Liszt Museum presents Liszt’s life and work in three themed areas. The overarching theme of the exhibitions is “Le Concert c’est moi – The concert is me”.
The “Liszt Birthplace” area focuses on Franz Liszt and the piano. One of the two organs on display comes from Raiding parish church. The museum thus brings together the biographical connection to his birthplace, the piano as an exhibition theme and an instrument from the local parish church.
Liszt Centre and Festival
The Liszt Centre Raiding is home to the Liszt Festival Raiding, which takes place in several cycles. Festival visitors can enjoy outstanding piano and orchestral concerts in the concert hall right next to Franz Liszt’s birthplace. The venue and birthplace are therefore directly adjacent, while the festival programme draws on Liszt’s music.
Including the balcony, the concert hall holds about 580 people. The Liszt Centre also has a small hall, described as a VIP room, with a capacity of about 80 people. The capacity figures distinguish the larger concert hall from the smaller hall described as a VIP room.
Cycle Routes Around Raiding
The B40 Red Wine Cycle Route passes directly through Raiding and runs for 38 km through the Blaufränkischland countryside. The Roman Amber Road also passes through the village; as the B47 cycle route, it is developed from Strebersdorf to Deutschkreutz. The B47 is listed as 30.57 km long, with a duration of 2 hours and 10 minutes. The routes can be distinguished by their landscapes and themes: the B40 connects the Blaufränkischland countryside with the Red Wine Cycle Route, while the B47 follows the Roman Amber Road between the places named.
The Amber Trail also passes through Raiding. Its Stage 7 follows almost exactly the route of the ancient Roman Amber Road. An information panel about the Roman Amber Road is located about 100 m beyond the section of the path leading from Horitschon to Raiding. For a walk with a historical connection, this section offers a tangible link between the present-day route and the ancient road.
The B46 Liszt Cycle Route passes Franz Liszt’s baptismal church. This cycle route, too, connects a specific Liszt-related place with a route through the region. The routes range in theme from the Blaufränkischland countryside and the Roman Amber Road to Liszt’s baptismal church.
Raiding Valley and Wine
Raiding is nestled in the Raiding Valley. Wine tasting also has a specific location: at the village wine shop “Liszt&Wein”, you can taste and buy wines. The valley’s landscape and the wine on offer at the wine shop thus complement the village’s cultural and cycling themes.
