Discover Arriach: Hiking, Farming Culture and Distinctive Places
Accommodation in Arriach
Arriach brings together several distinct travel interests: hiking, farming culture, distinctive places in Carinthia and seasonal winter activities. When planning your stay, you can consider whether you are looking for a circular hike, local history, a geographical landmark or a winter activity. Culinary highlights, including regional specialities, add another topic to explore.
Hiking: Circular Trail and Long-Distance Trail
The Arriach farm hiking trail is a family-friendly, well-marked circular trail that can be walked in ordinary hiking boots. It showcases elements of farming culture that offer insight into the region’s traditional way of life and economy. The seven-topped spruce also stands right beside the farm hiking trail.
The Alpe Adria Trail differs in scale: this long-distance hiking trail passes through Arriach and runs from the GroĂźglockner to the Upper Adriatic. The type of trail is a practical point of comparison when deciding: a loop or a long-distance trail that passes through Arriach.
Farming History and Culture
Numerous farmhouses, old Blochstadl barns and Troadkästen granaries in Arriach point to its farming history. These features around town complement the farming theme of the farm hiking trail: you encounter it both along a route and in Arriach’s buildings. The Church of the Four Evangelists offers another cultural perspective. It is considered the largest Protestant church in Carinthia.
Landscape and Geographical Landmarks
The geographical centre of Carinthia is 4.4 km from Arriach town centre. It is marked by a circular red platform with intersecting diagonal lines. A hiking route from Arriach also leads to this point. The information is given in two different ways for orientation: the distance is measured from the town centre, while the route leads from Arriach to the centre of Carinthia.
Two mountains can also be distinguished by their location and elevation. Gerlitzen (1,911 m) lies south of Arriach, while Wöllaner Nock (2,145 m) lies to the north. Wöllaner Nock is therefore the higher of the two mountains and is also on the opposite side of town.
More Nature and Winter Activities
At Wurzelpark Arriach, you’ll find a quiz hiking trail, the Birdsong Trail and the Ant Trail, as well as a natural water playground. Arriach is also home to the world’s largest hiking boot, in size 1025. Alongside the hiking trails, these offer a quirky local attraction and a natural water playground to explore in their own right.
A cross-country ski trail of around 3 km is available in the area of the Klösterle valley station and car park. Its availability depends on winter conditions. If cross-country skiing is important to your trip, check whether the trail is currently open before your visit.
Regional Specialities
Regional specialities can be sampled at the Slow Food Village Arriach. Availability varies by business and season. If you’d like to plan a tasting, check what is on offer during your travel dates.
