Hochrindl-Alpl appeals to travelers who want to plan their days outdoors, with hiking routes, mountain panoramas, and seasonal winter sports activities. Concrete differences are important when choosing when to travel: hiking trails lead to various viewpoints and elevations, while skiing, cross-country skiing, and tobogganing are dependent on the season or snow conditions.

Hiking between the reservoir and the alpine pasture

On the Hochrindl, hikers and nature lovers can explore elevations between 800 and 2,441 meters above sea level. The circular trail around the reservoir is about 2 km long and offers panoramic views. A circular trail to the reservoir crosses flowering alpine meadows and leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Gurkursprung Nature Reserve. The hike to the reservoir ends at a picturesque mountain lake; from there, panoramic views stretch from the gentle Nock Mountains to the striking Karawanks.

On the hike via the Ursula spring, the trail continues toward Kruckenspitz and reaches the distinctive weather cross at 1,881 meters above sea level. The return route to Hochrindl-Alpl passes through scenic alpine pastures, meadows, and forest trails. Compared with the routes described, the reservoir hike focuses on the mountain lake and panorama, while the hike via the Ursula spring highlights the weather cross and the scenery along the return route.

Winter sports by season and snow conditions

The current entry by Kärnten Werbung lists six lifts and two baby lifts for the Hochrindl ski area; the lift configuration may change operationally. The “Krucken” run is a FIS course, where European Cup races are regularly held. There are 23 km of cross-country ski trails on the Hochrindl; their availability is seasonal. This gives visitors a choice between alpine downhill skiing and cross-country skiing.

The ski school on the Hochrindl offers ski, snowboard, and cross-country skiing lessons; the courses are seasonal. It also organizes winter sports events such as ski tours and snowshoe hikes, although some events are seasonal. Tobogganing options include three prepared runs. One leads to the Stoicharthütte and is illuminated in the evening; tobogganing depends on snow conditions. When planning, you can therefore distinguish seasonal course and event dates from the snow conditions needed for tobogganing.

Other places and practical information

At König Waldgeist, there are carved wooden figures, adventure playgrounds, and viewpoints. These offer a different focus from the route descriptions for the reservoir or via the Ursula spring, giving you another way to plan your visit.

The municipality’s 2024 annual report listed a DiscGolf course, Nockholz playgrounds, and an artificial ice rink on the Hochrindl. Current operations at the course and playgrounds may change; the artificial ice rink is seasonal, and its operation may also vary.

The Hochrindl mountain chapel is open to visitors at any time of day or night for quiet reflection, silent prayer, or a devotional service. There are numerous free parking spaces on the Hochrindl. When planning, you can therefore take into account a possible visit to the chapel as well as traveling by car, in addition to your chosen activities.
