Getting to know Hochrindl as a destination

When choosing a stay in Hochrindl, it’s worth first considering the activities you have planned: the options include winter sports, hiking, adventure trails, a chapel and an interactive culinary activity. Hochrindl lies in the heart of the Nockberge Nature and Landscape Conservation Area.

Skiing and equipment

Hochrindl has 20 km of optimally groomed ski slopes, ranging from easy runs for beginners to difficult runs for experts. These include the “Krucken” downhill run, an FIS course that regularly hosts European Cup races. Since the available facilities and grooming can vary depending on the season and operating conditions, check these details for your planned visit. The Hochrindl Ski School offers lessons for children and adults, as well as for beginners and advanced skiers. The ski school also has state-of-the-art, well-maintained ski, snowboard and cross-country ski equipment to suit different needs. The slopes are described as ranging from easy to difficult, while the ski school separately lists age and experience groups. If you’re planning a trip with children or people of varying experience, you can take this distinction into account: slope difficulty and ski school offerings answer different planning questions.

Distinguishing hiking from cross-country skiing

The Hochrindl hiking area ranges from 800 to 2,441 m above sea level. The Nature Panorama Trail is 13 km long and is not groomed. The Anderleloipe I is an easy, 3.5 km cross-country ski trail. The elevation range refers to the hiking area as a whole, not to the elevation gain of an individual tour. So when planning, consider not only the distance but also the type of route and, for the Nature Panorama Trail, the fact that it is not groomed.

Adventure trails and other activities

Two adventure trails offer different experiences. The Zirbenzapfi Adventure Trail starts at the Herzl-Hütte, where you can get information and a trail map before setting off. The König Waldgeist Adventure Trail combines a fairy tale with carved wooden figures, adventure playgrounds and scenic viewpoints. At the Herzl-Hütte, you can pick up a fairy-tale booklet with directions and a riddle before you set off. A disc golf course has also been set up in front of the Herzl-Hütte on Zirbenhang.

Chapel, history and cuisine

The Hochrindl Mountain Chapel is open to visitors at any time of day or night, for example to take a break, say a silent prayer or attend a service. The wooden Tatarmandl figure on the Hochrindl state road marks the point reached by a “Tatar horde.” At the Almmatura, you taste and identify organic specialties such as “Luftgeselchter” smoked bacon, Bündner meat, homemade sausages, “Glundner” cheese, farmhouse butter, farmhouse bread, cider and “Zirbenkraft.” The Almmatura is not just about tasting: identifying the organic specialties listed is also explicitly part of the activity.
