Liebenfels: Castle, Courses and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Liebenfels
In Liebenfels, history, activity and tours through the landscape come together. When planning your trip, it’s worth distinguishing between the different options: a puzzle game in the castle cellar, an outdoor course and a longer hiking stage each offer a different focus. This lets you decide whether to focus on a single attraction or a route that requires a dedicated time commitment.
Liebenfels Castle and Escape from the Dungeon
Liebenfels Castle is a twin castle with two massive keeps. Its six floors can be climbed safely and comfortably via an integrated staircase. The castle cellar is home to the “Escape from the Dungeon” escape room, where visitors solve puzzles to get out of the dungeon. The castle offers two distinct experiences: its striking architecture and the climb on the one hand, and the puzzle challenge in the cellar on the other.
Climbing Course, Archery and Adventure Games
The Liebenfels climbing and low-ropes course covers an area of about 2,500 m². It includes a climbable rock face about 70 m long and 40 m high, as well as an adjoining low-ropes course. The combination of rock climbing and a low-ropes course sets this attraction apart from the courses and games in Liebenfels: the focus here is on climbing the rock face and the low-ropes course.
The Liebenfels archery course follows streams, passes through woodland and runs by rugged rock faces and viewpoints. Its targets are 28 life-size 3D animals. The landscape and target motifs together shape the course; unlike the climbing area, the route itself is also a distinguishing feature, not just the activity.
LaZer Live-Action-Games offers a strategic adventure game on more than one hectare of woodland or in a 400 m² glass-roofed hall. The two venues are quite different: you can choose between the expansive woodland and the hall. Unlike the archery course, the focus here is on strategic gameplay. When comparing activities, you can therefore consider both the format and the setting in which each game takes place.
Trails, Waterfall and Tour Planning
Liebenfels has an extensive network of cycling and hiking trails. One specific section is the fourth stage of the Four Mountains Trail: it runs from St. Leonhard in Liebenfels to Sörg, is 21.1 km long, takes about 6.5 hours and is rated moderate. This makes it easy to factor in the time required for this longer tour. The Four Mountains Trail is signposted in both directions and marked accordingly.
The Adventure Water Trail offers a view of the 25 m-high Sörg Waterfall. Do not take the trail in bad weather or during high water. Check local notices before setting out.
A municipal description of the Rocki Express, published in spring 2026, lists the “Die Zechnerin” inn as its starting point. The ride passes through Sörg, with views across Central Carinthia, and continues to the Sörg Waterfall before returning to the starting point via the panoramic road. Seasonal service information may change, so check it before making plans.
