Neuhaus offers a range of options to help you plan your trip: contemporary art, Gothic architecture and visual arts, walking and cycling routes, and seasonal activities. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip to Neuhaus, you can tailor your stay to your interests – perhaps a museum visit, a bike ride or an event centered on local cuisine.

Liaunig Museum and art in Neuhaus

The Liaunig Museum holds one of the most extensive collections of contemporary Austrian art dating from 1945 onward. For the 2026 season, opening hours are from April 26 to October 31, Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If you are planning a visit in a later season, check the opening days and hours in effect at that time.

Art can also be found in a variety of forms beyond the museum. Bernhard Wolf’s “Leuchtturm/Svetilnik” installation at Trafo Neuhaus addresses the climate crisis with the inscription “+15 °”. The sunbeam tower, built from larch wood in 2021, creates a different effect: its shadows move throughout the day like those of a sundial.

Gothic wall paintings and local history

Neuhaus/Suha Parish Church dates from the second half of the 14th century. Its Gothic wall paintings are dated to around 1400. The church and its paintings therefore offer two related but distinct historical points of reference: the construction of the building and the later period when the wall paintings were created.

In the village of Bach, the history of the Patek Mill spans several changes: it was built in 1853, revitalized in 1992 and converted into a farm museum in 1996. In Schwabegg, a memorial at the cemetery preserves the memory of composer Anton von Webern. The church, mill and memorial thus offer different ways to explore local and cultural history.

Water trails and outdoor activities

KunstSinnNeuhaus am Weg connects the village of Neuhaus with the Liaunig Museum. The 1.2-kilometer trail is designed as a sculpture trail and family motor-skills trail. The Pudlach/Neuhaus Water Experience Trail takes you through a different landscape: it leads through the forest to the Drau, to the mouth of the Motschula stream, and along the stream’s riparian landscape. There is a Kneipp trail along the route, and a zip line for children at the end.

The two trails have different focuses: KunstSinnNeuhaus am Weg combines sculptures with motor-skills activities, while the Water Experience Trail focuses on forests, waterways and riparian landscapes. The Santa Lucia suspension bridge on the municipal border of Neuhaus gives cyclists access to the “Kunst-Radweg” (“Art Cycle Route”). The Drau Cycle Path also runs directly through Neuhaus; Stage 5 passes through here.

Sonnenwiese, Hadn and seasonal events

Sonnenwiese Neuhaus is open to the general public and visitors. Guided wild herb walks are offered there in summer. As this is a seasonal activity, it is advisable to check the dates ahead of your planned visit.

The traditional Hadnfest, held every September as a culinary festival featuring local restaurants and direct marketers, can be a reason to plan a trip of its own. Visitors can sample Had'n-Kranznudeln at the Had'n restaurants. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific dates and current offerings of participating businesses.
