Traiskirchen: Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Traiskirchen
Traiskirchen brings together a range of themes to help you plan your trip: industrial and everyday history, protected nature, viewpoints, wine-growing and special leisure interests. If you are looking for a hotel, these cultural, natural and leisure attractions can provide an initial guide to choosing your destination.
Museum and Historic Sites
Since 1988, the Traiskirchen Museum has been housed in the buildings of the former Möllersdorf worsted-spinning mill. The former industrial site thus provides the historical setting for exhibitions that are not limited to a single subject. Its extensive collections cover everyday culture, wine-growing, agriculture, education, archaeology and natural environments, as well as documentation on industrial history. This mix places everyday life and economic topics alongside perspectives on nature and history. For culturally minded travellers, it offers a broad introduction to different facets of Traiskirchen.
Around 30 of the more than 100 listed trams are on display at the WTM Museum Depot in Traiskirchen. These approximately 30 vehicles make up part of the larger collection and give the depot a distinct focus alongside the museum’s broader subject areas. Visitors with a particular interest in technology and transport will find a specific link to the history of trams here. Another historic building worth mentioning is the Ferschner Mill, which is probably the best-preserved mill in the city.
Nature, Elevation and Views
The landscape offers distinct points of interest in terms of conservation, elevation and views. The Schwechat-Au between Tribuswinkel and Wienersdorf has been protected as a natural monument since 1994. The Urbanus Chapel stands at 256 metres, the highest point in Traiskirchen. Mandelhöhe offers views over Traiskirchen and into the Triesting Valley; on clear days, the Hohe Wand and Schneeberg are visible. This lets you distinguish between a protected natural area, a specific high point and a distant panorama. At the Schwechat-Au, its protected status is central; at Mandelhöhe, the views across the landscape; and at the chapel, its elevation.
Wine-Growing and Special Interests
Wine-growing can also be viewed from two angles: the museum features it as an exhibition topic, and the Mandelhöh vineyard is one of the best-known wine-growing areas in the city of Traiskirchen. Wine enthusiasts can therefore explore the subject through a museum or visit a named wine-growing area. A Riede is a vineyard site.
For special leisure interests, astronomy and climbing or bouldering offer different options. The Franz Kroller Observatory in Traiskirchen is the oldest observatory in Lower Austria. Rotpunkt Climbing Centre offers 480 m² of climbing and bouldering space. These details provide different points of reference: the observatory is distinguished by being the oldest in the state, while the climbing centre is described by its specific floor area.
