Klein-Harras offers several specific themes to consider when planning your trip: geological snapshots in time, traces of the former village of Tiemental-Neusiedl, cycling and pilgrimage routes, and the Weinviertel heritage railway. If you are looking for hotels for a stay in Klein-Harras, first consider whether you are most interested in geological interpretations, historical traces, trails or the heritage railway.

The Weinviertel Sea: Orientation and Geological History

The information panel for the “Weinviertel Sea” project is located about 300 metres outside Klein-Harras, at the end of Hochweg, by the first windbreak, in the direction of Gaweinstal. Visitors who do not live in the area cannot reach the project site by car because vehicle access is prohibited.

The interpretation presents the location in three snapshots in time: 16 million years ago, as the tropical inland sea Paratethys; 9 million years ago, as the mouth of the ancient Danube; and 20,000 years ago, as a Siberian tundra. The sea, delta and tundra represent three different ideas of past landscapes; the panel thus connects a specific location with a vast span of geological time.

Tiemental-Neusiedl and Its Visible Traces

Another historical point of interest is the former village of Tiemental-Neusiedl. Seen from Klein-Harras, the information panel is right by the entrance to the forest, to the left of the field path leading into Harasser Forest. A well and an earthwork mound with ditches running around it are still visible near Klein-Harras, remnants of the former village. While the panel at the forest entrance marks the site of the former village, the well and earthwork mound provide tangible, visible clues.

Cycling Route Connection and St. Francis Way

The safe cycling route connection between Bad Pirawarth and Klein-Harras includes a section about 630 metres long, which connects to Klein-Harras’s local road network within the village. Its completion was reported on 6 November 2023.

The Weinviertel St. Francis Way runs for about 1.8 kilometres from Martinsdorf to Klein-Harras. These distances refer to different routes: about 630 metres for a section of the cycling route connection, and about 1.8 kilometres for the St. Francis Way section between Martinsdorf and Klein-Harras. The Weinviertel St. Francis Way stamp station in Klein-Harras is located in the entrance area of the Church of St. Philip and St. James.

Heritage Railway and Bus Connections

The k. u. k. Weinviertel Heritage Railway runs along a route about 9 kilometres long, from Bad Pirawarth via Klein-Harras station and Hohenruppersdorf to its terminus at Sulz-Nexing. On the heritage railway’s Saturday and Sunday train journeys, a diesel locomotive and an original steam locomotive about 130 years old are in use. Check the current timetable before planning a specific journey.

There is a bus stop near Klein Harras station, with connections to Hohenruppersdorf, Gänserndorf, Vienna and Mistelbach. For planning purposes, these are two separate details: a heritage railway route to Sulz-Nexing and bus connections to Hohenruppersdorf, Gänserndorf, Vienna and Mistelbach.
