Lauterbach: Swimming Pond, Trails and Views
Accommodation in Lauterbach
Lauterbach offers several distinct points of interest to consider when planning a stay: the Holzmühlteich pond, trails with interactive stations or viewpoints, and historical and craft-related attractions. If you are looking for a hotel, it is best to first decide which of these interests will shape your stay. Swimming and ball games offer a different focus from a scenic walk or a visit that combines local history with the jewellery workshop. The attractions below make these differences clear and help you factor suitable excursions into your plans.
Holzmühlteich Pond and Leisure Activities
The Holzmühlteich is a small swimming pond just a few minutes’ walk from the Moorheilbad Harbach spa. On hot days, it invites you to go for a swim. Changing rooms and showers are available at the pond. There is also a children’s playground, as well as beach volleyball and streetball courts. This combines water activities with two different ball sports, with the playground as another amenity on site. For planning your day, the pond is clearly distinct from the trail destinations: swimming and facilities in one place take centre stage, rather than stations or a viewpoint. If you like to plan your day around a single destination, you will find a different kind of offering here than on the trails described below.
Trails with Different Highlights
The Hoidaweg starts and ends at the Steinbrunnerhof in Lauterbach. It features several stations with a variety of interactive play elements, as well as a small exhibition in the “LEBENsWELT - Geschichte und Begegnung” (World of Life – History and Encounters) wooden hut. Unlike the Ohynaweg, whose viewpoint offers a view over Lauterbach, the Hoidaweg excursion centres on its stations and exhibition.
The Ohynaweg No. 16 leads to the “Hoch über Lauterbach” (High Above Lauterbach) viewpoint, which offers a view over Lauterbach. On the way back, the trail passes through the village. In contrast to the Hoidaweg, its focus is therefore the viewpoint and the route through Lauterbach on the return journey. As another option for cyclists, the Via Verde Nebelstein also passes through Lauterbach.
Chapel and Jewellery Workshop
Lauterbach Chapel was first opened to visitors in 2003. The Waldviertler jewellery workshop, also known as Kristallmanufaktur Haumer, has a different kind of history: it has been a family business since 1850. Visitors can view and buy souvenirs made from glass and stone there. The two attractions differ in what they are known for: the chapel’s historical connection is its opening to visitors in 2003, while the workshop is characterised by its family-business history and its specific range of souvenirs. If you would also like to include history or crafts alongside the pond and trails, they offer different points of interest.
Find a Hotel That Suits Your Plans
First decide whether swimming at the Holzmühlteich, the trails and their different features, or the chapel and jewellery workshop will be the main focus of your stay. Then compare the specific hotel offers based on their location relative to the attractions that matter to you and the amenities listed for each property. This way, your search reflects the excursions you actually plan to take and the features of each hotel.
