Hadres: Cellar Lanes, Winegrowing and Culture
Accommodation in Hadres
Discover Hadres through its cellar lanes, winegrowing and selected cultural attractions. The local trails and seasonal opening times provide practical information for planning your trip. This helps you decide whether to focus on a cellar lane, cycling routes, a museum visit or an event.
Cellar Lanes, Winegrowing and Seasonal Culture
The Hadres Kellertrift is 1.6 km long and a cultural asset whose basic structure has been preserved. It is a useful point of reference if you are interested in the town’s architectural and cultural heritage. Winegrowing offers another way to explore Hadres’s history: since the Middle Ages, it has been the population’s most important livelihood. The Kellertrift and the long tradition of winegrowing tell different sides of the town’s character, without requiring you to focus your visit on just one of these themes.
In winter, the longest Advent market in the Weinviertel takes place in the Hadres Kellertrift. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the event dates in advance. The Köllagossnmorkt offers another opportunity to meet regional producers: visitors can shop directly from them there. It is also worth checking the dates for this market during your travel period.
Trails Through Hadres and the Pulkau Valley
The Polt Trail passes through Hadres’s traditional cellar lanes. The Keller-Wohlfühlplatz is another starting point for exploring the longest and oldest cellar lanes. Information about these trails and destinations offers different ways to plan a visit: one follows a route through the traditional cellar lanes, while the other explores the two specially designated lanes from the Keller-Wohlfühlplatz.
For a longer bike ride, the 51.56 km Polt Cycle Route is a circular route through the Pulkau Valley to filming locations from the Polt film series; it leads into the Hadres cellar lane. Marked international and local cycling routes also pass through Hadres along the border with the Czech Republic. In addition to the local cellar-lane theme, there is a designated circular route connected with the film series and a marked cycle network to use as separate points of reference. Check the route details again before setting out.
Church, Viewpoint and Historic Cellar Lane
Hadres parish church is in the eastern part of town. Another named destination is the “Auf der Ebm beim Freiheitskreuz” viewpoint, with the Hubertus Chapel. The chapel is right at the viewpoint. If you would like to organize your visit around specific sights, you can use the church as a reference point in town and treat the viewpoint and chapel as a separate destination, without combining the two into a single route.
The former old “Seitweg” cellar lane is about 400 years old. The current level of visitor access is also important for this destination: full visitor access is planned only for the future. Keep this restriction in mind when planning, and do not treat Seitweg as one of the cellar lanes that can be explored along the routes described above.
Opening Hours and Visit Planning
The Keller-WohlfĂĽhlplatz is open daily from April to October, 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Visitors can enjoy grape juice and water there. If you plan to use the site as a starting point for exploring the longest and oldest cellar lanes, bear the seasonal opening hours in mind and check them again before your trip.
Zeissl’s Museum in Hadres is open from May to October on the first Sunday of each month, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Groups can book guided tours year-round in advance; tours last about an hour. This means the museum’s regular opening hours differ from the option to request a guided visit for a group. If you are travelling with a group, plan to book in advance and confirm the visit time beforehand. For an individual museum visit, the stated Sunday hours are the relevant guide; check these opening hours again before setting out.
