Limberg offers points of interest for those interested in cultural history and nature, as well as options for planning routes. The castle and parish church offer a different focus from the Dragonfly Pond and the various trails. When planning your stay, you can decide which themes you want to shape your visit.

Culture and History

During the renovation of Limberg Castle in 1982/83, the year 1570 came to light. It points to a building phase in the 16th century. Limberg parish church is dedicated to Saint James the Elder. Another cultural and historical point of interest is the prehistoric settlement site of Heidenstatt: its western part lies in Limberg, and the Dragonfly Pond Trail leads to the settlement site.

Dragonfly Pond and Alte Kuh

The “Dragonfly Pond” nature conservation project was carried out by the Hengl company in 2003 and was established around the centuries-old balancing rock “Alte Kuh.” The Dragonfly Pond includes a 800 m² pond, created to protect dragonflies threatened with extinction. This brings the nature conservation project and the distinctive balancing rock together in one place.

At the “Alte Kuh” natural monument on the Dragonfly Pond Trail, a large stone table and a bench invite you to relax and enjoy a picnic. If you plan to take a break there, check before your visit whether these seating and picnic facilities are still available, as such amenities can change.

Routes with Different Points of Interest

The Wald & Reben cycling tour starts in Limberg at the KleinstraĂźe/HauptstraĂźe intersection and heads north past the Dragonfly Pond near the Limberg quarry and through the Straninger Au to Straning. The starting point, direction and destination provide a clear sequence for planning the route; the tour passes named landmarks on its way to Straning.

The Libellenteichweg-Maissau starts at Limberg-Maissau railway station. It passes through KleinstraĂźe and Steinweg, past Sandkreuz and along Grenzweg Limberg-Straning to the Dragonfly Pond. The route also leads to the prehistoric settlement site of Heidenstatt. The routes can be distinguished by their points of interest: the cycling tour goes from a road intersection to Straning, while the Dragonfly Pond Trail starts at the railway station and leads to the pond and Heidenstatt.
