You can tailor your stay to your interests in water, exercise or history.

Bergwerksee Lake and Leisure Activities

Bergwerksee Lake lies outside the village of Langau, towards the national border. The bathing area has a large sunbathing lawn, two showers and a non-swimmer area; these facilities may operate seasonally. Take this into account when planning your day at the lake. The beach volleyball court at the lake is available for use at any time. Purpose-built areas offer opportunities to relax in nature. At the Langau leisure centre, you can sunbathe, swim, bathe and play; changing rooms are available.

The bee nature trail at Langau’s Bergwerksee Lake includes a demonstration apiary. It houses numerous bee colonies and also has a wild bee station. Bergwerksee Lake is especially appealing to anglers who practise “Catch & Release”.

The Langau water-ski centre, in cooperation with WSC Tulln-Langau, offers courses for all ages and skill levels—from beginner courses to specialist training for experienced participants. Course levels therefore range from introductory to specialised training; you can choose according to age and experience.

Trails and Activities

The “Stille Pfade” (“Quiet Trails”) network in Langau is suitable for walking, family cycling and sports cycling. It connects Langau with all neighbouring municipalities and almost the entire Horn district. “Tut gut” hiking trails also run along Bergwerksee Lake. Check trail conditions locally before setting off.

A leisure trail runs towards the large Bergwerksee Lake. Brown coal was mined in an open pit at this lake in the last century. The Langau leisure climbing garden has a 60-metre route that is designed to be climbed without touching the ground. Langau is also a good starting point for the Waldviertel leisure tour. The Langau leisure trail leads to a plant maze.

Museum and Local History

Since May 2016, the Langau Leisure Museum has displayed a diorama of the former Langau brown coal mine, depicting its heyday in the 1950s. The museum also illustrates how people celebrated festivals in the past. The Church of the Assumption of Mary was first mentioned in the first half of the 13th century and features medieval and late Gothic architectural elements. Another historical landmark is the St John of Nepomuk column, a Baroque column dating from 1728.
