Discover Langenlois
Accommodation in Langenlois
If you are looking for a hotel in Langenlois, you can plan your trip around the town’s different themes: winegrowing, views, local history and landscaped trails each offer a distinct focus. Specific points of interest include a 6-kilometer hiking route, an audio crime story and an observation tower with views across several landscapes. Before your trip, consider whether you want to focus mainly on the wine landscape, cultural activities or longer hiking trails.
Culture and Local History
The Langenlois local history museum displays prehistoric finds from the region. These include Central Europe’s largest mammoth tusk, measuring 3.34 meters long. Other exhibits offer insights into civic life, crafts, winegrowing and the religious traditions of the people of Langenlois in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The range of subjects thus extends from early finds to several centuries of local history. If you are interested in everyday life and how it has evolved, the museum offers a different perspective from the trails through the wine landscape.
Wine Trails, Art and Views
The Langenlois WEINWEG is 6 kilometers long and passes through the Dechant, Käferberg, Steinhaus and Schenkenbichl vineyards. Information panels and unusual objects share insights into the work involved in tending the vineyards. Along the trail, the 7-meter-high artwork “Traube am Käferberg” stands beside a viewing platform. It was created by Austrian artist Heimo Zobernig, is titled “ohne Titel 2005” and is known in Langenlois as “Traube am Käferberg.” The same route thus brings together a theme of winegrowing and a specific work of art.
The long-distance hiking trail “Kremstal-Donau” covers a different scale: it is 100 kilometers long in total and has 15 stages, two of which pass through Langenlois. The WEINWEG, by contrast, focuses on a 6-kilometer hiking route through four named vineyards. This comparison helps put the different trail formats into perspective without reducing them to the same theme.
The observation tower on Gobelsberg lies south of Gobelsburg, on the 303-meter-high Gobelsberg. It can be reached on foot from the town center in 30 minutes. Its panoramic view extends from the Tullner Basin across the Danube Valley to the foothills of the Alps. While the route through the vineyards focuses on art and vineyard work, the observation tower offers far-reaching views across the landscape.
Audio Crime Story, Gardens and More Culture
The Langenlois STADTWEG, “Der Syndikus von Langenlois,” follows the trail of a true crime story from 1824 through an audio crime story. It centers on the tragic end of tax collector Johann Hoffer. The story gives the town trail a historical focus. The poetry slam tour “Langenloiser Ohrwürmer” offers a different cultural perspective: performances by Mieze Medusa and Markus Köhle paint a personal portrait of Langenlois.
The Schiltern Model Railway World offers another distinctive attraction. Located in Schiltern Castle, it showcases traditional and cultural landmarks from across Austria at a scale of 1:87 in a 300 m² exhibition layout. The Schiltern GARTENWEG connects the Kittenberger Adventure Gardens and the ARCHE NOAH show garden. It also leads to other gardens, historic community gardens, a wine cellar lane, garden businesses, artists, craftspeople, winemakers and Heurigen in the garden village of Schiltern. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between historical, artistic and garden-related themes.
Wine Cellar Lanes and Wine Landscape
Langenlois’s wine cellar lanes are known for wines, specialties from winemakers’ kitchens, wine festivals, convivial gatherings and views of the wine landscape. The lanes mentioned are Sauberg above Langenlois, Heiligenstein in Zöbing and Mittelberg. Each place thus offers different points of interest for a visit, from views of the wine landscape to wine and winemakers’ cuisine. Opening hours vary at individual wine cellar lane venues, so check the relevant hours before planning a visit.
