When planning your stay in Annaberg im Lammertal, you can choose between nature, outdoor activities and culture. At Gerzkopf, the protected area and the designated route are central; hiking options in Annaberg-Lungötz are another attraction. The parish church, listed buildings, Gererhof and the Hay Figures Trail add further highlights. This lets you decide whether the landscape, hiking or local history should shape your stay most.

Nature and Conservation at Gerzkopf

The Gerzkopf Nature and European Conservation Area also extends into the municipality of Annaberg-Lungötz. The new wooden boardwalk at Gerzkopf channels visitors along a clearly defined route, thereby protecting the adjoining moorland. Its official opening was announced for 2 September 2026. If you plan to use the route, check the latest information before your visit. For travellers interested in nature and moorland conservation, the combination of a designated route and protected moorland is a specific point of interest.

Hiking and Skiing

The SalzAlpenSteig in Annaberg-Lungötz offers hiking options for a range of abilities. The Donnerkogelbahn cable car takes you to the Dachstein-West hiking area around the Gosaukamm and Zwieselalm. The summer programme for 2026 also described a family-friendly trail from the Donnerkogelbahn mountain station area to the Rottenhofhütte, combining nature, play and exercise. The Dachstein West ski region is considered suitable for families, beginner skiers and leisure skiers; it lists 160 km of excellently groomed pistes, a figure that may change. The hiking options differ in how they are described: the SalzAlpenSteig offers routes for a range of abilities, while the trail to the Rottenhofhütte was described as family-friendly in the 2026 summer programme. The 160 km refers to the Dachstein West ski region.

Parish History and Protected Buildings

Annaberg Parish Church was completed in 1752, when the parish of Annaberg was separated from its mother parish in Abtenau. The Catholic Parish Church of St Anne in Annaberg-Lungötz is protected as a listed building under an ordinance; the former sacristan’s house, also known as the forester’s house, is protected under an individual ruling. Another cultural highlight is the Kumpf Owl, which stands on a specially built fountain in front of the middle school in the centre of Annaberg. These sites bring together parish history and heritage protection with a work of art in the town centre.

Gererhof: Flax, Linen and Craftsmanship

Gererhof has rooms preserved in their original condition and a permanent exhibition entitled “From Flax to Linen.” It also showcases traditional crafts, historic costumes and an intact smoke kitchen. The exhibition title highlights flax and linen, while the crafts and costumes add other traditional themes. This cultural attraction therefore differs from the parish history and heritage protection.

Hay Figures Trail and Gaudi Golf

The Annaberg Hay Figures Trail starts at the Kopfbergbahn car park and features various Lammertal hay figures, created each year for the world’s largest HeuART parade. The trail is part of the Gaudi Golf course offered around Kopfberg in Annaberg-Lungötz. You can get equipment and scorecards for Gaudi Golf from the Annaberg-Lungötz Tourist Association.
