When planning a trip to Steuer, hiking destinations provide two main points of reference: specific starting points and different walking times. Several hikes begin at the Donnerkogelbahn or its mountain station; another marked trail starts at the Mauerreith car park. Comparing walking times helps you choose a suitable timeframe for your planned hike; however, the routes lead to different destinations.

Stuhlalm: Hike and Views

The route to Stuhlalm can start at the Donnerkogelbahn in Annaberg; it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours on foot. This timeframe is a guide and may vary depending on conditions. Stuhlalm is located at Steuer 23, 5524 Annaberg im Lammertal. The scenery includes sunset views towards the Tennengebirge. Homemade bacon is recommended at Stuhlalm; the food on offer may vary seasonally. Check the hut’s seasonal opening hours before your visit.

Hikes from the Donnerkogelbahn

A 1 km hike from the mountain station of the Donnerkogelbahn leads to Rottenhofhütte and takes about 30 minutes. The family-friendly Fuxis Adventure Trail also runs from the mountain station to Rottenhofhütte. Check the lift operating hours before setting out. The hike to Sonnenalm on the Zwieselalm also starts at the same mountain station. Compared with the route to Stuhlalm, the walk to Rottenhofhütte is shorter: about 30 minutes instead of 1.5 to 2 hours. Sonnenalm is another destination option from this starting point.

More Destinations and Timeframes

A marked hiking trail leads from the Mauerreith car park to Loseggalm in 50 to 60 minutes. This is between the roughly 30-minute walk to Rottenhofhütte and the approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to Stuhlalm. These three walking times provide a useful comparison for planning your day: they range from a shorter hike to a longer timeframe, but refer to different destinations and starting points. Theodor-Körner-Hütte adds options for hiking, climbing and mountaineering, as well as enjoying the views. It has been in operation since 1923. When planning these activities, take seasonal operations and the conditions into account.

Getting Here and Seasonal Offers

The car park at the Donnerkogelbahn in Annaberg is free and has a charging station for electric vehicles. The valley station of the Donnerkogelbahn for the Annaberg hiking routes is located at Steuer 60, 5524 Annaberg-Astauwinkel. It is important to distinguish between the valley and mountain stations: the hikes to Rottenhofhütte and Sonnenalm mentioned above start at the mountain station, while the address at Steuer 60 refers to the valley station. Before travelling, check whether the charging station and seasonal lift operations suit your dates.

Seasonal offers and equipment hire may also be relevant when choosing your excursions. At Holzerhütte, Steuer 56, equipment and scorecards for Gaudi-Golf are issued; this service is seasonal and should be checked before your trip. Freeride-alpin offers ski and snowboard rentals at the valley station of the Donnerkogelbahn at Steuer 60. This means you can include hiking, Gaudi-Golf or winter sports equipment in your plans, depending on the focus of your trip.
