Fuschl am See
Accommodation in Fuschl am See
Lake Fuschl is considered the cleanest and clearest lake in the entire province of Salzburg and the Salzkammergut, and its water is of drinking quality. Circular routes, a natural swimming beach and seasonal activities offer a variety of ways to enjoy your stay. When planning your trip, you can start by considering whether you would like to spend more time hiking, swimming, playing golf or enjoying the local culture. The activities vary by season and sometimes by day of the week or weather.
Circular routes and lakeside scenery
The Lake Fuschl circular hiking trail starts at the Fuschlseebad car park in Fuschl am See and runs mostly close to the lakeshore. On the western shore near Schloss Fuschl and in the area where the Fuschler Ache flows out of the lake, the trail moves a little farther from the shore and passes through a scenic nature reserve. On the northern shore, you’ll find the “Fuschl-SEH-Weg” nature trail and the “Waldandacht” place of power.
Another option is the Fuschlsee-Filbling loop: it starts and ends in Fuschl am See and goes counterclockwise around Lake Fuschl. This lets you plan around two distinct features of the routes: the specific starting point at Fuschlseebad for the Lake Fuschl circular hiking trail, and the prescribed direction of the Fuschlsee-Filbling loop. If you’re interested in lakeside paths, the named nature trail on the northern shore offers another focus.
Mill, herb garden and gnome trail
The Rumingmühle watermill, built in 1872, is part of the Ruminggut estate. The herb garden, created in 2002 by Sophie Brandstätter and home to more than 140 herbs and plants, is on the hiking trail towards Rumingmühle. Together, the mill and garden add a cultural-historical and botanical touch to a walk without requiring a lengthy change of theme.
The Gnome Trail is a family-friendly walking route for all ages. It passes the herb garden and Rumingmühle, and adds a gnome story that can be read aloud or read by children themselves. The walking route thus combines the two places mentioned with a storytelling activity. If you’re out with children, this particular combination of a walking route, mill, garden and story is a useful point of reference when choosing your activities.
Swimming, golf and seasonal activities
Wesenauer bathing area is a natural swimming beach on the southern shore of Lake Fuschl, about a ten-minute walk from Fuschl am See. Its seasonal visitor operation runs from May to September. For golf, the Golf Academy at Waldhof Golf Club offers lessons from the beginning of April to the end of October. The aim is to try out golf, complete a course to obtain a playing certificate or improve your handicap. The lesson period therefore starts earlier in the year and ends later than the seasonal visitor operation at the bathing area.
Cultural and culinary events also take place on different dates. The traditional costume band performs a small concert in the village square every Wednesday in summer; the concerts take place only in fine weather. On summer evenings, ensembles from the Fuschl traditional costume band and guest groups from the region perform in the church square. From May to September, a snack day is held at Rumingmühle every Saturday from 1 p.m.; check the details before you travel. The “Fuschlerin” boat service operates only in dry weather and normal wind conditions.
Coordinate your travel dates and hotel search
The dates listed can help you match your activities to your travel dates: May to September is relevant for the bathing area and snack day, while golf lessons are available from the beginning of April to the end of October. Weather also plays a role for the summer concerts; the “Fuschlerin” boat trip has its own weather conditions. If you’re looking for a hotel in Fuschl am See, you can use these differences to first decide which activities and travel dates matter to you.
