Discover Hinterweisspriach via the Longa, its meanders and the trails into the upper Weißpriachtal. There are different options to consider when planning your trip: a hike to Wirpitschsee, cycling routes along the Longa and individual natural and cultural points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to first organise your planned activities: Would you like to walk to Wirpitschsee, take a bike tour into the upper valley or experience the Longa at individual stops? The specific routes differ in their starting points and in where you switch from cycling to hiking.

The Longa, scenery and individual stops

In the wider area, the entire Longa region has been designated a protected landscape area because of the Longa stream’s unique meanders. The Seekreuz Chapel is in Hinterweißpriach. A route description published on 30 March 2021 places the Uln Waterfall just beyond the Ulnhütte and describes it as a popular photo spot when there is enough water. At Glücksplatzl, the otherwise gently flowing Longa plunges thunderously into the depths. Water conditions at both places vary seasonally.

In the upper Weißpriachtal, there is a Kneipp facility beside the cold, clear Longa. In the wider area, the Longa is also a destination for fly fishing. Its banks offer an opportunity to take a break during a hike. The Longa therefore offers a variety of experiences: a Kneipp facility, opportunities for fly fishing and a place to rest by the riverbank.

Hiking to Wirpitschsee

The “Weißpriach: Wirpitschsee” hike follows the clear Longa to Wirpitschsee, at an elevation of 1,699 metres. It starts at a car park in Hinterweißpriach. To reach it by car, follow the access road to the Znachtal fork, then turn left and continue to the last car park, which is fenced off. As road and parking conditions may change, check the current access route before you set off.

On the bike-and-hike route to Wirpitschsee, the cycling section ends at the Ulnhütte. Leave your bikes there and continue on foot towards the Tonimörtlhütte and Wirpitschsee. The hiking section beyond the Ulnhütte passes a waterfall and crosses the Longa before the marked trail leads into the forest. This division into stages is what specifically distinguishes this route: the switch from cycling to hiking.

Cycling routes into the upper Weißpriachtal

The cycle path to Hinterweißpriach leads from the village centre through the Schwaig district, following the Longa to Hinterweißpriach. It takes you to a rest area with benches where you can linger. Beyond the toll barrier, the cycle path in Hinterweißpriach follows the turquoise-coloured Longa into the upper Weißpriachtal.

The ride into the upper Weißpriachtal follows wide gravel and alpine tracks and is easily manageable on a mountain bike or gravel bike. The route through Schwaig and the section beyond the toll barrier provide different landmarks to help you plan your cycling trip. As toll regulations may change, check them before you set off.
