Oberhaag: Hiking Trails, Geology and Natural Swimming Pond
Accommodation in Oberhaag
If you like to plan your trip around a hike, Oberhaag has several trails of varying lengths, walking times and themes. The Border Viewpoint Tour offers panoramic views, while the Chapel Trail and Geology Trail each have their own focus. Other attractions include the Village Loop, Altenbach Gorge, the Mineral Exhibition and the natural swimming pond.
Hiking Trails: Compare Times and Themes
The Border Viewpoint Tour is 13 kilometres long and takes 4 to 5 hours to walk. It offers panoramic views of the Koralpe, the Gleinalpe, the Schöckl and Riegersburg Castle.
The 14-kilometre-long Chapel Trail passes chapels and wayside crosses and offers a peaceful, contemplative experience. Its walking time of 3 to 4 hours is shorter than that of the 13-kilometre-long Border Viewpoint Tour, which is listed as taking 4 to 5 hours. So when estimating how much time you have available, it is worth comparing the distance and walking time separately.
Along the 5.5-kilometre-long Oberhaag Geology Trail, information boards provide insights into the region’s geological history. The walk takes about two hours. This means the trail combines a relatively short walking time with a geological focus.
The St. Pongratzen Trail starts in the centre of Oberhaag, is 8.3 kilometres long and takes about three hours. It passes through Goßlieschen to the St. Pongratzen viewpoint and continues to the Panoramaschenke Tertinek.
The Village Loop is a 4.7-kilometre family hike along flat, paved paths. The route takes about 1.5 hours and is also suitable for strollers and balance bikes.
Altenbach Gorge stretches for about 2.3 kilometres to the exit near the Panoramaschenke Tertinek vlg. Mukonig; the route involves an elevation gain of almost 400 metres. For the marked hiking trails, the trail markers begin at the Oberhaag Municipal Office, and further access points are available along the way.
