Mitterberg is a sunny high plateau and a distinctive hill in the heart of the Enns Valley. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Mitterberg, you can choose your destination based on the activities you want to pursue during your trip. Marked trails for hiking, running, and Nordic walking, winter hiking, and skating cross-country skiing offer different ways to stay active; Gstatt Castle adds a connection to Baroque architecture. The landscape of the high plateau provides the setting for choosing where to stay.

Hiking and running trails

The Mitterberg-Sankt Martin Activity Arena comprises 14 marked hiking, running, and Nordic walking trails with a combined length of 70 kilometres. This figure refers to the overall range of trails, not to a single route. The Activity Arena therefore gives you an overview of several types of activity. The Mitterberg Trail is a specific running option: it is just under 18 kilometres long and suitable for running. The two figures refer to different scales: 70 kilometres is the total length of the 14 marked trails, while just under 18 kilometres is the length of the trail. If you are planning a run in particular, the trail’s length is the more directly relevant guide. If the trail is rerouted, its stated distance may change; bear this in mind when planning your run and check the current route.

Winter hiking and skating

The “Winter Hiking on Mitterberg” route circles almost the entire Mitterberg. The 5.5-kilometre Mitterberg Skating Trail is a skating cross-country ski trail on the high plateau; it starts and finishes at the Mitterberg municipal office. The routes differ in their layout: the winter hiking route describes an almost complete circuit, while the ski trail has a set distance and a specified start and finish. Snow conditions vary by season, so plan according to the conditions at the time. Parking for the winter hiking route is available by the Mitterberg municipal office or at the entrance to Kaindorf. Check the winter parking regulations locally before setting out.

The route to Salza Waterfall

The route to Salza Waterfall begins at the Salza car park and crosses a signposted bridge, followed by a footbridge to the waterfall. The starting point and both crossings are therefore relevant when planning your route. Weather or maintenance work may temporarily affect access details, so check the current situation before your visit.

Gstatt Castle as an architectural highlight

The Baroque Gstatt Castle is in the municipality of Mitterberg-Sankt Martin, on the border with the municipality of Öblarn, and is privately owned. It adds a different focus to the outdoor activities: Baroque architecture and a location on a municipal boundary. If you would like to include architecture among your travel interests alongside sporting activities, Gstatt Castle offers a distinct cultural point of interest. The location places the castle in Mitterberg-Sankt Martin and identifies Öblarn as the neighbouring municipality.
