If you are looking for a hotel in Sankt Nikolai in the Sölktal, you can plan your trip around local points of interest: local history at the Mesnerhaus, hikes and winter activities, and the Sölk Pass Road, which is open only in summer. These destinations differ in their offerings, route lengths, and seasonal conditions—important factors when planning your days.

Mesnerhaus: Local History and Culture

The Mesnerhaus has been part of village life since 1639. It served as a sexton's house, school, poorhouse, and toll station—four different functions within the village. Following its redesign in 2025, the Mesnerhaus serves as a museum of local history and presents the diverse culture of the Sölk valleys. The house brings together local history and a broader cultural perspective.

The multimedia exhibition covers knowledge of folk medicine, plants, customs, and traditions in the Sölktal, passed down through generations. The exhibition content may change. The topics give a concrete impression of what the museum focuses on beyond the history of the house: traditional knowledge and cultural traditions of the Sölktal.

The Mesnerhaus is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; admission is by voluntary donation. Opening hours may change without notice, so check them before your visit.

Hiking: Routes and Starting Points

The easy winter hike from St. Nikolai to the Bräualm starts at the Gasthof zum Gamsjäger. It is 3.8 kilometers long, climbs 70 meters, and takes about an hour. This gives you specific reference points for the route length, elevation gain, and time required. When planning, also take winter conditions and the necessary preparations into account.

As a shorter route option, the hike from Sankt Nikolai follows the main road toward the Sölk Pass for about one kilometer to the Hansenalm. You can compare the route length directly with the 3.8-kilometer winter hike to the Bräualm; the Hansenalm route is the shorter of the two.

Winter Trails and Skiing

Alongside the St. Nikolai–Bräualm cross-country ski trail, there is a groomed track for winter hikers. A groomed track also runs alongside the Mößna–St. Nikolai cross-country ski trail, which is free to use. These add further cross-country ski trail options to the hikes described above when planning for winter.

The Stockerfeldlift in Mößna offers sunny conditions that are particularly suitable for families and beginners who want to ski. This adds skiing as a distinct option alongside winter hiking and cross-country skiing.

Summer Drive along the Sölk Pass Road

The Sölk Pass Road is open only in summer. By car or the Tälerbus, you can travel through the mountain landscapes of the Niedere Tauern. If this drive is part of your itinerary, check road access and transport conditions in advance. This lets you account for the seasonal restriction when planning your route.
