Bach: Nature, Trails and Winter in the Lech Valley
Accommodation in Bach
Bach lies in the heart of the Lech Nature Park Region. Visitors will find a range of options here: hiking trails, a seasonally operated gondola lift, winter activities and local culture. Which of these matters for your stay depends mainly on when you travel and what you want to do. The bus, gondola lift and winter trails each have their own timing conditions; take them into account separately when planning.
Bus and Jöchelspitze Cable Car
From June 12 to October 4, 2026, bus route 111 connected Gramais, the Jöchelspitze Cable Car, Bach, Holzgau, Steeg and Kaisers in both directions. This period of validity has passed. If bus connections are important for your trip, check the connection valid for your travel dates.
The Jöchelspitze Cable Car runs from Stockach in the Lech Valley to an elevation of 1,800 meters. Its operating times are seasonal. If you are considering both for your travel plans, check the seasonal operating period separately from the bus route’s validity. The bus route connects the places listed above, while the gondola lift travels from Stockach in the Lech Valley to an elevation of 1,800 meters.
Hiking and Routes
The Jöchelspitze Botanical Nature Trail passes the Mountain Hay Museum and ends at the junction for the Alpine Rose Trail. The Madau High Trail runs from Bach to Madau and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area. It requires sure-footedness, is suitable only for experienced hikers and is listed as closed. Check its access status before setting out.
A stage of the Lechweg Trail between Holzgau and Elbigenalp also passes through Bach’s rich, idyllic natural landscape. The stage connects two named places and also passes through Bach. The Bach paragliding center “On Air” offers a wide range of courses. If paragliding is of interest to you, check course times and provider information before making plans.
Winter and Local Culture
In winter, groomed cross-country ski trails are available in Bach. Grooming varies depending on winter conditions. Winter hiking trails add to the options; their condition depends on the winter weather. Both activities are seasonal, but require different planning considerations: for the ski trails, check whether they are groomed; for the winter hiking trails, check their current condition. If winter activities are important for your trip, check the conditions for your travel dates.
Two brass bands and the marksmen’s association are established cultural fixtures in the municipality of Bach/Stockach. Another local tradition is associated with Saxerwand in the Madau Valley: according to the story, Geierwally once took an eagle’s nest from there. The clubs and the local legend represent different aspects of the area: the brass bands and marksmen’s association belong to the municipality of Bach/Stockach, while the story is linked to Saxerwand in the Madau Valley.
