Discover Steeg
Accommodation in Steeg
Steeg can be explored through a range of interests: the Lech and trails in the nature park region sit alongside a rich church history. There are also activities involving water, herbs and relaxation. If you are considering Steeg as a destination for a hotel stay, these themes offer a practical starting point: would you prefer to spend your time being active outdoors, by the water or exploring historic buildings?
The Lech, mountains and water
The Lech is navigable for watersports from Steeg to Weißenbach. Before setting out, check which access points are permitted and what seasonal rules apply. In Steeg, there is also a natural Kneipp facility right by the Lech and a waterfall, where you can refresh and relax. These offer two different ways to enjoy the water: navigating a stretch of river on the one hand, and the natural Kneipp facility on the other.
The Pimig also shapes the landscape: it is Steeg’s local mountain and reaches an elevation of 2,406 metres. For those looking to orient themselves by the area’s distinctive landscape features, the Pimig offers a clear point of reference in terms of elevation, alongside the Lech and its banks.
Hiking trails and cycling route
A hiking route leads from Steeg through the flower- and herb-rich Bockbachtal via Birchetsgump to the Postalm, Almwirtschaft Bockbach and Gams Vroni mountain snack stations. The route combines a described valley and plant landscape with several named stops. As trail conditions can vary by season, it is a good idea to check them before setting out.
Another walking trail follows an uphill forest road from Steeg to the district of Ebene and offers views. The two routes have different destinations: in Bockbachtal, Birchetsgump and the mountain snack stations lie along the route; the walking trail leads to Ebene and offers a view. You can choose according to whether you prefer a hiking route with named stops or a walk to a village district.
For cyclists, the Lechtal cycle route from Steeg to Reutte is another option. It is well signposted and runs through the landscape of the Lechtal Nature Park region. Check route conditions and signage before setting off.
Churches and historical references
Steeg Parish Church is dedicated to Saint Oswald. Both the church and the War Memorial Chapel are listed buildings. From 1401, the church in Steeg was a branch of Holzgau Parish Church. A chapel in Steeg was first mentioned in a document in 1570 and enlarged in 1687.
The municipality of Steeg also includes the hamlet of Hägerau, with a Baroque subsidiary church built in 1729. The historical details span different dates and places: the church’s affiliation from 1401, the mention and subsequent enlargement of a chapel, and the construction of the church in Hägerau. If you are interested in the history of religious buildings, you can consider these sites separately without treating the individual churches or chapels as one and the same.
Relaxation, herbs and the village centre
The Aqua Nova leisure pool in Steeg offers wellness facilities as well as fun for children and families. As seasonal opening times may vary, check the current hours before visiting. Steeg also offers informative herb workshops and guided walks with herb specialists; dates for the individual programme may vary.
The Lechtaler Naturkäserei Sojer is located in the centre of Steeg. If you are planning a group visit, check the arrangements in advance. Together with the water activities, trails and historic buildings, these offer a range of themes to help you decide whether Steeg is right for your trip.
