Three main themes can help you plan your trip to Eggelsberg: the landscape of Ibmer Moor, lakeside trails and historic sacred buildings. There is also specific information about route lengths and how to get there, making it easier to compare different day plans. You can choose how much to focus on nature, swimming and culture according to your interests.

The Ibmer Moor and its landscape

The Ibmer Moor European protected area is located in Ibm, a district of Eggelsberg. The approximately four-kilometre-long Ibmer Moor trail starts in the village of Ibm and leads from the “Moarhaus” to the Seeleiten viewpoint. From there, you can look out over Lake Leithensee, the moorland, and the Salzburg and Bavarian Limestone Alps. Carnivorous plants such as sundews, butterworts and bladderworts grow in the moor. The area is also a habitat for the great bustard, snipe, corncrake, herons, lapwings and hoopoes. The trail therefore combines scenic views and nature with a specific approximate route length.

Trails by the lake and through the glacial disintegration landscape

The barefoot lakeside circular trail is also about four kilometres long. It passes over different types of ground through fen meadows around the Ibmer/Heratingersee. The Eggelsberg Glacier Rim Trail offers a different landscape: at around eight kilometres long, it leads through a glacial disintegration landscape to erratic boulders and information boards. When comparing the two trails of around four kilometres with the longer Glacier Rim Trail, both the distance and the landscape features mentioned for each are worth considering. The VIA NOVA also passes through the municipality of Eggelsberg.

Lake Ibmer, lido and cycling routes

Lake Ibmer is up to seven metres deep and covers an area of about 32 hectares. The Ibm lido invites the whole family to swim. The facilities listed include four jetties extending into the water, well-maintained sunbathing lawns, changing cabins, lockable lockers and a children's playground. As facilities may change seasonally, check that they are open before your visit. Cycling is another option to consider when planning your trip: six cycling routes pass through the municipality. The route network may change, so check the current signage before setting off.

Chapel and parish church

The “Maria Hilf” chapel in Ibm houses an original statue of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 15th century, which comes from the former castle chapel. The Eggelsberg/Ibm Marian Pilgrimage Trail leads to the chapel, linking a walk with this historic destination. The Church of the Assumption of Mary is another architectural landmark: it dates from 1420 to 1436 and is a two-aisled Gothic building of the Bürkel type. The church also houses a life-size crucifix created around 1648 by Braunau sculptor Martin Zürn. The building’s history and its artwork thus offer two different points of interest for a cultural stay.
