Mattighofen combines historic architecture with nature-related attractions. When planning your trip, you can consider these highlights side by side: the town square and several buildings offer different architectural and historical points of interest, while nature trails and Badhausweiher focus on forests and water. If you are looking for a hotel in Mattighofen, your personal interests can guide your plans.

Town Square and Architectural History

Mattighofen’s town square is over 300 metres long and features the Inn-Salzach style typical of the region, a blend of Italian and German stylistic elements. Its length and stylistic mix offer two specific points of reference: its spatial dimensions and its architectural classification. The Zinngießerhaus is the oldest surviving historic building in the town. This adds another aspect to the square’s architectural style: the heritage status of an individual building.

Mattighofen Provost Parish Church was first mentioned in a document in 1379. Its tower is 55 m high, including the cross. The first figure marks a point in history; the second gives a structural measurement. This makes it possible to distinguish between the church’s first written mention and the height of its tower.

Mattighofen State Music School is housed in a grand villa in the Historicist style, built in a park in 1905. Alongside the church, it offers a comparison of different dates: 1379 is the church’s first documented mention, while 1905 is the year the villa was built. The villa’s architectural style also adds a distinctive element to Mattighofen’s architectural history.

Nature Between Forest and Water

A sequoia tree planted in the early 20th century stands in Mattighofen Castle Park. The period when it was planted adds a specific date from the castle park to the historical context offered by the buildings. If you are interested in how architecture and landscapes change over time, you can explore these two different ways of looking at history here.

The Hofau Forest Nature Trail runs through a small wooded area on Mattighofen’s southwestern city limits. Along the 16 information boards, you can learn about forest life. The Hofau nature trail also features a bird clock and information boards about individual tree and bird species. The boards about forest life and the information about specific species focus on different topics.

Badhausweiher in Mattighofen was created as a local recreation area and features a fish education trail. This trail, which focuses on fish, adds to the nature-related topics of forests, trees and birds. You can plan your stay according to which of these topics interests you most.

Circular Trail, Parking and Seasonal Leisure Pool

The starting point of the “1000 Steps” circular trail is at Mattighofen Castle. For directions, free parking is available at Wasseracker, east of the town square; from there, the castle is no more than a three-minute walk away. The circular trail starts at the castle, while the parking area is described in terms of its location relative to the town square and the walk to the castle. Check the parking regulations on site if you plan to park at Wasseracker.

Mattighofen Leisure Pool has a water slide almost 100 m long and operates seasonally. If the pool is one of your travel interests, take its seasonal operating schedule into account. You can therefore give this leisure attraction a different priority in your plans from the historic buildings or nature trails.
