Lambrechten: Spice Fields, Hiking Trail and Parish Church
Accommodation in Lambrechten
If you are considering Lambrechten as a place to stay, you will encounter two distinct sides of the town: spice plants and the associated hiking trail on the one hand, and the parish church, historical landmarks and rural settlement patterns on the other. These specific features can help you choose the focus of your visit according to your interests.
Spice Plants and Hiking Trail
At the Spice Cinema, visitors learn about the journey of spice plants, from cultivation and harvesting to processing. The Schneiderbauer Spice Cinema is a multimedia experience space in the old vaulted stable at Schneiderbauer Gewürze in Lambrechten. Check the latest opening and operating details before travelling if you plan to include this stop in your itinerary.
The Spice Hiking Trail runs around the spice fields of Schneiderbauer Gewürze in Lambrechten. Check the route conditions before setting out. Free printed hiking maps are available from the Lambrechten municipal office. The two spice-related attractions offer different experiences: the Spice Cinema explains the stages of cultivation, harvesting and processing, while the hiking trail leads around the fields. When planning, you can therefore choose between learning about the process behind spice plants and following a route around the spice fields.
Parish Church and Local History
Lambrechten’s parish church was built between 1724 and 1726. Its nave has a single aisle and three bays; the church also has a two-storey west gallery. “Single-aisle” describes a layout with one main nave, while “three-bay” refers to the division of the nave into three bays. The Catholic parish church of St Lambert is protected as a historic monument by decree. The construction period, spatial layout and protected status offer different points of reference: they concern the church’s origins, its architectural design and its heritage protection.
The ancestral seat of the knightly lords of Messenbach, also known as Messenbeck, is located in the village of Messenbach. Today, it is still discernible as an eroded earthwork. The name Messenbeck refers to the same lords. Unlike the parish church, this historical landmark can be identified by its location in Messenbach and its recognisable landform.
Farmsteads and Four-Sided Farmyards
Lambrechten’s settlement landscape is characterised above all by isolated farmsteads. The four-sided farmyard, which is also characteristic of the Innviertel region, is another distinctive feature of Lambrechten. As a building type, a four-sided farmyard is a farm complex whose buildings enclose the courtyard on all four sides. This brings two scales into view: isolated farmsteads describe the settlement pattern, while the four-sided farmyard is a specific type of farm. The local character can thus be understood through both the settlement structure and the regional architecture.
