Dietach offers different ways to explore local history: the new and old parish churches, the branch church in Stadlkirchen and the Gallhuberhof Farm Technology Museum each have their own focus. The Ă–k.Rat Johann Gerstmayr Circular Hiking Trail adds a scenic perspective.

Churches in Dietach and Stadlkirchen

The new parish church in Dietach was consecrated on 21 November 1982, after 16 months of construction. Its colourful stained-glass windows were made by the Schlierbach stained-glass workshop and by Prof. Rudolf Kolbitsch from Linz. Alongside the date of consecration, the origin of the windows offers another way to explore the church’s history: the construction period and artistic design are different aspects of the same church. The tower and presbytery of the old parish church have been preserved. The presbytery is used as a weekday and baptismal chapel. Dietach’s church history thus includes both a new building and parts of the older one, whose presbytery has a specific use.

The branch church in Stadlkirchen offers another historical perspective. The consecration of a chapel in honour of St Margaret is recorded there for 1074. Around 1350, the painters’ school of St Florian created frescoes in the branch church’s presbytery. These are two different historical references: the chapel’s consecration points to an early Christian tradition, while the frescoes reflect a later artistic treatment of the presbytery. Traditionally, the church’s dedication is celebrated in Stadlkirchen with a fair on the Sunday after Easter, known as Low Sunday. Since the date depends on Easter, the specific plans for each year are based on the date of Easter.

Gallhuberhof: Farm History and Collection

The Gallhuberhof Farm Technology Museum brings two museums together under one roof. The Gallhuberhof is a four-sided farmstead that has been passed down through 27 generations since 1420. The museum houses 4,000 exhibits. They include rural everyday culture, with traditional costumes and gold bonnets, furniture, a cabbage cellar and hand tools. The subjects range from clothing and domestic life to food storage and work. The figures for the site also distinguish between two areas: the entire grounds cover about 8,000 m², while the exhibition hall accounts for 2,800 m². The farm’s history, the size of its collection and the exhibition area describe different aspects of the Gallhuberhof and give an idea of its thematic and spatial scope.

Circular Hiking Trail and Scenery

The Ă–k.Rat Johann Gerstmayr Circular Hiking Trail starts at the church square in Dietach. It runs between the fields and WeiĂźinfang into Panholz; the final section goes over Pfarrberg. In fine weather, this section offers panoramic views of the foothills of the Alps. The trail links a specific starting point with a variety of landscapes and a weather-dependent view. If you are considering cultural sites and an outdoor route as different options for your stay, the circular hiking trail offers its own scenic focus.
