Parish Church and Art History

Schiedlberg Parish Church of the Annunciation was built under Emperor Joseph II between 1786 and 1790. Its interior contains high-quality late Baroque furnishings from closed monasteries and churches. The high altar features Rococo statues and an altarpiece by Franz Xaver Gürtler from 1777; in 1839, it was transferred here from the former Cölestinerinnen Church in Steyr. The dates mark different stages: 1777 dates the painting, 1786 to 1790 the construction of the church, and 1839 the transfer of the altar. Franz Josef Altenburg designed the altar, ambo and presider’s chair for the parish church. The church thus brings together its own architectural history, works of art from different settings and distinctive design features.

Hiking and Activities

Those looking to add some activity to their stay will find an extensive network of hiking trails in Schiedlberg. Since 2012, Segway Goldberg has offered Segway tours through the surrounding area, using trails and routes, directly next to the climbing forest. Hiking and Segway tours offer different kinds of activities: hiking centers on the trail network, while Segway tours are a separate tour offering. Goldberg Climbing Park has a continuous belay system and is suitable for children aged six and over. Children up to the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. If children in this age group are taking part, be sure to plan for adult supervision. Ice stock sport is also offered in Schiedlberg in a weather-independent indoor hall; seasonal operating schedules may vary. The planning requirements therefore differ: age and supervision are key at the climbing park, while seasonal operation should be taken into account for ice stock sport.

Beer and Brauhof Goldberg

All the beers at Brauhof Goldberg are brewed on site, and seasonal beer specialties are also available. Brewery tours are offered as well. If you plan to take a tour, check the current visitor options in advance. This allows you to distinguish between the beer selection and a tour as a separate activity.

The Local Landscape
