During a stay in Krenglbach, you can focus on different things: a measured circuit along the soil education trail, architectural and commemorative culture, or topics relating to animals, evolution and history. Information about the route, duration, ascent and exhibition areas helps you distinguish between these options. You can plan accordingly, depending on whether you would rather go hiking, admire church architecture, or explore an exhibition and experience area.

Hiking on the soil education trail

Route 1 of the Krenglbach soil education trail is 3.50 km long, takes one hour, has an ascent of 30 m and is rated very easy. This provides a clear timeframe and distance for planning. Krenglbach has also had a signposted network of hiking trails since spring 2005. The route and the trail network offer two concrete options for anyone who would like to include a hike in their stay.

Parish church and light column

Krenglbach parish church still has the form of an east-facing hall church built in the 18th century. Its west tower has a Baroque spire and stands 35 m tall. The stained-glass windows tell the stories of the lives of Saints Florian and Augustine. The church thus brings together a historic architectural style, a striking tower and depictions of the two saints.

The light column offers another way to explore Krenglbach’s history. Its main section consists of four glass panels created by artist Franz Kohler together with the glass workshops at Schlierbach Abbey. The light column is intended to record milestones in Krenglbach’s history, commemorate the notable achievements of earlier generations and preserve their memory. Anton Reidinger offers a further biographical link to the town’s history: the priest who wrote the lyrics to “Es wird scho glei’ dumpa” was born in Krenglbach in 1839.

Schmiding Zoo, Aquazoo and Museum

Gorilla Bay at Schmiding Zoo is home to Austria’s only gorillas. At Schmiding Aquazoo, an exhibition covering 3,000 m² is dedicated to evolution. It takes visitors on a journey through time from the Big Bang to the present day. Austria’s largest marine aquarium, home to a group of blacktip reef sharks, is also located in the Aquazoo.

The Museum of Evolution is located on the grounds of Schmiding Zoo. It displays artefacts from ancient cultures. Those wishing to distinguish between the subjects will find a chronological account of evolution in the Aquazoo and exhibits from earlier cultures in the museum. At Schmiding Zoo, visitors can also observe vultures at close range in the world’s largest walk-through bird of prey enclosure.

An indoor experience

GIBBO'S KLETTERDSCHUNGEL is a 180 m² indoor adventure playground. Its features include a 20 m suspension bridge and an 8 m tube slide. These dimensions give you a concrete idea of the play areas, without suggesting that a visit is the same as a hike or a museum visit: this is an indoor experience. Along with the soil education trail, cultural topics and the various exhibition contents, it gives you a choice of which aspects to make the focus of your trip to Krenglbach.
