Orlovo offers several specific points of interest for travelers who want to take local history into account when choosing a destination. In the village center, south of the town hall, there is a freestanding memorial plaque commemorating Russian troops who camped in Orlovo. The village is also home to the Orthodox Church of Saint Athanasius. These two places offer different points of focus: the memorial plaque recalls the troops, while the church serves as a religious landmark in the village.

The settlement in its landscape

Another historical point of interest is the medieval settlement near Orlovo. It lies south of the road between Mandra and Orlovo, on the left bank of the Kozletska. Its landscape setting is between the valleys of the Maritsa and Arda rivers. The settlement is identified as archaeological site 42 along the Greece–Bulgaria gas pipeline route. Different scales help place it in context: the road between the named places, the left riverbank, and the two river valleys as the broader landscape setting. This makes the location of the medieval settlement understandable both in terms of its immediate surroundings and the wider landscape.

Coins, plants, and materials for jewelry

Finds include coins, plant remains, and shells. A coin of Alexios I Komnenos is dated to the period from 1081 to 1118. The most recent coin identified from the settlement is a billon aspron, minted under Manuel I Komnenos between 1143 and 1180. In chronological terms, the date of the Alexios coin precedes the minting of the aspron under Manuel I; at the same time, the aspron is the most recent coin identified from the settlement. Bread wheat, rye, and peas were found in pits at the settlement. The coins are associated with rulers' names and dates, while the plant finds are associated with the plant species. Shells from the southern Aegean were found near Orlovo and used as a raw material for making jewelry. Thus, for this material, its use is also relevant alongside the find location.

Cultural tradition and accommodation

The cultural references also relate to different periods. The Vasil Levski 1927 cultural center organizes a Horo tradition in Orlovo that began on March 12, 2017, and continued through November 2025. Distinct from this is a historical festival announcement: the fourth regional folklore festival ā€œOrlovski Napeviā€ was announced for July 18, 2021, in Orlovo. Authentic folklore groups and soloists, dance ensembles, and groups presenting folk customs, stories, and legends were planned to take part. The Horo tradition spans a longer period; the festival was associated with a single date and an announced program.
