Novo Selo: Culture, Customs and Sport
Accommodation in Novo Selo
If you are looking for a hotel in Novo Selo, it is worth first considering what you would like to focus on during your stay: sport, everyday culture or seasonal customs. There are specific points of interest in each of these areas. For events and sports facilities, you should also check the relevant dates and current conditions of use.
Sports facilities and current use
The 2016 sports project included a restored tennis court with a designated spectator area; new fitness equipment was also added as part of the same project. The sports complex described in 2016 supported several indoor and outdoor sports. Its courts were illuminated and could be used in the evening. Before using the facilities, check the condition of the tennis court, the availability of the equipment and the complex’s current rules of use on site.
Everyday culture and activities for children
At the Nadezhda 1908 community center, an ethnographic collection showcases the everyday culture of Novo Selo. Its contents include traditional clothing, agricultural tools, woven textiles and household utensils. Photographs depict revived customs and community groups. Objects related to clothing, work and household life are thus presented alongside images that bring customs and groups into focus. If you are interested in culture, the collection offers a specific theme to explore alongside the sports facilities.
A municipal program in 2023 included the community center in Novo Selo in summer creative and educational activities for children. Dates and participating venues may change. Check the current program if you want your stay to coincide with one of these activities.
Customs and event dates
A spring customs program included a ritual bread-making workshop and the decoration of a traditional St. George’s Day swing. Willow branches were also gathered, and traditional flower wreaths were made with local people, visitors and partners. At a spring customs celebration, visitors could sample lamb soup provided by local entrepreneurs and agricultural producers. The food offering was specific to this celebration; check the dates and program details before planning your trip around it.
An event in Novo Selo reenacted St. George’s Day customs, including the traditional “Games on Song”; local people and visitors took part. A traditional concert event linked 24 May with Novo Selo’s local festival and was intended for residents and visitors.
The Kumichene ritual was observed at the New Fountain locality, with wreaths thrown into flowing water. Before planning a visit, check local conditions and the situation at the water.
An invitation from 2023 was addressed to residents and visitors and concerned the Ilinden patronal service on 20 July at the Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah. If you would like to visit the church for this occasion, check the current celebrations in advance.
