When planning your trip, you can distinguish between two main attractions in Nova Gradiška: culture in the old town center, and sports and leisure activities. A museum and a Neolithic cult figurine add to the historical perspective. Consider which of these topics is particularly important to you when choosing your destination.

Explore the old town center on foot

The old town center retains its late Baroque character and can be explored on foot. Sights include the Church of Saint Teresa of Ávila, the former courthouse and prison building Glavna straža, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. This church houses murals by the Croatian painter Celestin Medović. The buildings offer different points of interest along a walk: churches and murals sit alongside the former courthouse and prison building.

Museum and ancient history

The Gradski muzej Nova Gradiška brings together archaeological, cultural and historical, and ethnological collections, as well as gallery collections. They cover the heritage of the city and western Slavonia. The museum therefore offers a view of both Nova Gradiška and the wider region. The building itself is also part of the cultural heritage: it is a Baroque-classical building dating from the 18th and 19th centuries and is recognized as a cultural monument.

The “Venera sa Slavče” offers a distinct perspective on the distant past. The Neolithic cult figurine was found on Slavča Hill and dates to the fifth millennium BC. It therefore represents a much earlier period than the late Baroque buildings in the old town center.

Sports facilities in the city

The Sportski centar Ivo Petranović has a children's playground, a street basketball court, a sand court for handball and football, and a sand volleyball court. The center also has a skatepark and sanitary facilities with showers. If you are planning a visit, check the current accessibility of the facilities in advance.

The San Siro sports center on Slavča hosts tennis competitions for younger and older participants. The Nova Gradiška Tennis Club runs a tennis school for all age groups at the courts. If you are planning a visit or to take part, it is advisable to inquire about the current program.

Cycling paths and routes

The Davor–Strmac cycling route is 120 kilometers long; this distance applies in both directions. Before setting off, check the route conditions and signage. The visitor project “Započni avanturu – istraži Novu Gradišku” also includes a city route with 21 points. A second route was planned to pass via Slavča to medieval Cernik. If you would like to use one of the project routes, check the signage and availability in advance.

Getting there and planning your stay

Nova Gradiška is located at a junction of major international road and rail connections, including the European corridors Vc and X. The city has good road and rail connections within Croatia and to Europe. For specific journeys, check the relevant timetables.

Traditional products

Slavonski dućan has a tasting room for homemade traditional products. If you are planning to include a tasting in your stay, inquire in advance about availability and the selection on offer.
