More than 500 kilometres of cycling tourism routes and an internationally certified equestrian trail offer two different ways to experience Bjelovar-Bilogora. They are complemented by a cultural event in Veliki Grđevac and a municipal project in Čazma. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the type of activity, individual route details and the right time to travel separately.

Cycling: route network and guided tours

Bjelovar-Bilogora County offers more than 500 kilometres of cycling tourism routes. One specific example is the international Lonjsko polje–Balaton cycling route, which runs through the county for 69 kilometres. One figure describes the scale of the regional offering, while the other refers to the section of a named route. This lets you distinguish between exploring the many cycling tourism routes and following a single international route.

Along the marked cycling routes, you will find places to visit, restaurants serving traditional home cooking, covered rest areas, bicycle service stations and Smart Benches. Licensed cycling guides also offer tours of the county. If you plan your own cycling days, you can take rest areas and bicycle service stations into account; if you would rather join a guided tour, licensed cycling guides offer another planning option. Check for tour dates that fit your travel dates. This is a different planning consideration from the route length: one concerns the route itself, the other the kind of guidance.

Equestrian tourism on the Bilogorska konjička turistička staza

For equestrian tourism, there is a dedicated route, the Bilogorska konjička turistička staza. It is Croatia’s first internationally certified equestrian tourism trail, is 90 kilometres long and has around 20 “horses welcome” points. The length and approximate number of points answer different questions about the route: how long it is and how many such points it has. In a direct numerical comparison, the equestrian trail is 90 kilometres long and the Lonjsko polje–Balaton cycling route section is 69 kilometres; this compares a route with a section of a route. So if you are choosing between cycling and riding, the type of activity is a useful first point of comparison.

Culture in Veliki Grđevac and the swimming pool in Čazma

A specific cultural highlight is in Veliki Grđevac: the Lovrakovi dani kulture are held at KUC Mato Lovrak. Unlike route planning, the focus here is an event at a named location. If the Lovrakovi dani kulture are the reason for your trip, check the dates for your planned travel period. This way, you can include the event in your plans once your travel dates are set.

The town of Čazma built Croatia’s first biological swimming pool as part of the Čazma Natura project. Operating details may vary by season, so check the latest operating information before planning a visit.
