The Municipality of Cetingrad can be explored through two very different experiences: the Korana Trail, with its karst formations and mills, and the medieval ruins of Cetin. Church history, community life and local festivals also shape the municipality. If you are planning days outdoors, the Koranski planinarski put offers a specific hiking option; for cultural and historical sights, Cetin and the Church of the Assumption of Mary are the main attractions.

The Koranski planinarski put

The Koranski planinarski put is in the village of Donje Gnojnice, within the municipality. This circular hiking trail runs from Gnojnice through the Jovac karst depression and the Korana Canyon, passing several mills, to the local swimming spot on the Korana.

The trail has six checkpoints and takes about six hours to complete. It has no technically difficult sections and is marked in both directions. At around six hours, the loop takes up a substantial part of the day; factor this time into your outing. The starting point in Donje Gnojnice is accessible via road D1 and a local paved road. Parking is available by the former school building. The trail may be impassable during high water; check current river and road conditions before setting out.

River Valleys and Karst Landscape

The Korana and Glina rivers cross the Municipality of Cetingrad, cutting narrow, canyon-like valleys into the carbonate bedrock. You can encounter the canyon landscape both directly on the Korana Trail and across the municipality more broadly.

Cetin and Church History

The ruins of the old town of Cetin are the municipality’s most significant attraction and an important medieval fortress. They lie several kilometres south of Cetingrad. The remains of an old Franciscan monastery are also located near the ruins.

The Church of the Assumption of Mary is another historical landmark: the present church is already the fourth on this site. Along with the ruins of Cetin, the succession of churches and the monastery remains form part of the municipality’s cultural character.

Festivals and Local Culture

The Cetingradska tamburica Cultural and Arts Association preserves and presents the traditions, customs and folklore of the Cetingrad region. Alongside the historic sites, the area’s cultural heritage is also part of the municipality’s character.

The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is Cetingrad’s patronal feast and attracts many worshippers from the municipality and other areas. Josipovo is held every year on the feast day of Saint Joseph as a traditional livestock fair in Cetingrad; the procession includes horse-drawn carriages and riders.

The Cetingrad fair offers traditional and handmade products as well as souvenirs. The fair also represents the authentic tastes and aromas of Kordun, complementing impressions of the landscape, history and religious customs with a regional market tradition.
