Two themes stand out when planning a trip to Lasinja: the Kupa, with its cycling and swimming opportunities, and local cultural heritage, including the prehistoric Lasinjska culture, the Ethno Museum and a central memorial site. If you are looking for hotels in Lasinja, these highlights can help you decide what kind of stay you are looking for.

The Kupa and Cycling Routes

Within the broader destination of Općina Lasinja, Lasinja lies on the right bank of the Kupa, in a lowland landscape. Cycling routes from Lasinja lead to quiet riverside areas along the river, where there are several swimming spots. This makes it possible to combine cycling with destinations by the water.

At 5.7 kilometres, Route 51, the “Lasinja small circle,” is considerably shorter than Routes 48 and 50, which start at the central square and cover a total of 14 kilometres. The Lasinja routes described here also include 13.5 kilometres of asphalt and 2.5 kilometres of gravel. The distance and surface provide two different points of reference for planning your route.

The Kupa in the Lasinja area is considered rich in fish; species include grass carp, carp, catfish and pike. Angling tourism also plays a role along this stretch of the river, although catches vary by season. For several years, the Riječno kino river cinema was held at the Pod pećinom swimming spot. This connects the riverside location with a cultural event that took place over several years.

Culture and History

The Ethno Museum in Lasinja opens to interested visitors by request. It is housed in a traditional wooden building and displays men’s and women’s folk costumes, traditional furniture and household items. The collection offers several tangible ways to explore local traditions, from the construction of the house to clothing and everyday culture.

The Lasinjska culture is named after the archaeological site of Talijanovo brdo in Lasinja and dates from 4300 to 3950 BC. It developed in the Lasinja area and spread beyond continental Croatia to the Posavina region of Bosnia, Slovenia and Carinthia, as well as Hungary around Lake Balaton. The name links it to Lasinja, while its historical spread extended far beyond the town.

The cloistered monastery of the Daughters of the Heart of Jesus has been in Lasinja since 2007 and is considered the only monastery of this order in Croatia. The complex includes the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which has an area for worshippers who wish to pray together with the nuns. The monastery and church thus form a religious focal point alongside the museum and archaeological history.

A monument in the centre of Lasinja commemorates 21 defenders and 21 civilians. It stands on the ruins of the parish church. Within the broader destination of Općina Lasinja, a new parish church was built at a new location after the war. It was consecrated on 28 October 2000 to Saint Anthony of Padua and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace.
